How to Save Money at Harborside Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They got us in very quickly when we realized our basset had a blockage in his intestines. The whole experience was incredible, they kept us updated every step of the way, the post op procedures are VERY detailed and help so much. They even reached out the next morning just to check on him and see how we were doing. The price was affordable especially for the urgency and type of the procedure that he needed. I’m so grateful for the awesome team they have working here. Worth the hour drive from Brandon area.

Amazing veterinary experience! My dog, Georgia has anxiety and does not play well with others so waiting in the reception area to be seen can be a very unpleasant experience, I explained this when making my appointment. I made the appointment for a Saturday two weeks later, even though my appointment was two weeks out I did not even have to remind the receptionist at check in about having to wait in the reception area with other dogs … we were taking into a room immediately after checking in. The animal hospital is clean, comfortable with great energy, every one from the receptionist to the vet techs and the doctor were amazing. You can tell everyone there loves their job and loves working with animals. This was probably the best experience I’ve ever had at a Vet. They explained everything completely answered all of my questions made sure I understood everything gave me their recommendations. We were only there for a check up updated shots and to discuss my girls anxiety… they gave their recommendations, but let me make the final choice on everything! They were not pushy did not try to shove anything down my throat. Just an awesome experience! I would definitely recommend and we will definitely be coming back

I’m absolutely blown away with this incredible hospital!!! My big sister who is a veterinarian in GA, Dr. Serina Doolittle, said take him stat. So, I took him right away & we are so glad we did!! I was shaking & scared but as soon as I walked in the receptionist, Lizzie, had such empathy & got me in the right mind, immediately. They took care of our baby with such love and efficiency! Dr. Walk, was so empathetic with a pretty severe diagnosis that would change Jack and our lives for the rest of his life. She gave me so much detail, notes, and deep explanations of everything. She took her time and made sure I understood EVERYTHING. The nurses made sure I understood everything as well and even rechecked on us as we were leaving. She made sure I fully understood all of his care that would be needed. The next morning (today), I received text messages, emails & a call with a voicemail to check on our Jack. They wanted to know how he was, how the treatment is going and to see if I had any questions. The team even sent over the other resources such as a website for recommended balanced home made food & ideal dog food recommendations for his condition via text in a private app care app. They even gave me the option to pick the things that I wanted to do for him on the paperwork before we even had the appointment instead of ending with an invoice at the end which I’ve experienced in the past. I have so much peace in my heart that my baby will be just fine and I also have peace that I know exactly what to do and how to care for him. I have the confidence because of the patience and care that was given from this amazing hospital. It is our new home, and I am so grateful to each and everyone of you, Harborside Animal Hospital! I’m blown away with your heart, professionalism & top notch care for our angel boy! 🐶 Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! ♥️ Jack is doing amazing today!!! Complete changed from yesterday. Aside from being upset about not getting any table scapes 😆 however he’s getting over it quickly. Mommy took him for an extra walk today which is a part of recommended care. Thank you, Harborside Animal Hospital!!!

My Finacée and I brought our 5 year old Staffordshire terrier mix here for surgery on her fractured paw and we were delightfully surprised with how genuinely caring and compassionate the entire staff was! First off, we had some pretty awful experiences at other clinics. From trying to force our dog to walk on a paw that was visibly broken, ignoring our requests for her to be carried, being led on and lied to about costs and treatment plans, and what so many ethical boundaries being ignored, that we were left feeling like our puppy needed help and there wasn't anyone we could trust to help her. We do have a great relationship with our primary veterinarian, unfortunately the surgery was a little too complex for her. After reaching out to a close friend who is a veterinarian, she recommended us to Harborside. Being such a close friend who's own dog got to play a bit of a "Mama Bear" role to ours while she was growing up, we absolutely trusted her. However, from all of the bad experiences we'd already had it was still pretty scary moving on to yet another place we didn't know if we could trust. Well, from the very first call to the clinic the trust began to build, and it has continued to build all the way through the process of getting her setup with the clinic, through the surgery consultation, through surgery day, at pickup, and even here after surgery. You can just tell this clinic and all their staff still have their hearts in the game and want to do the very best for our pets! Every single person who spoke to us about and/or cared for our dog was there for us! The experience of our dog breaking her foot and needing surgery was overwhelming, but the entire experience of going to Harborside was extremely welcoming and comforting. Whether it was over the phone or in person the ladies at the front desk, the Vet Techs, and the Veterinarians were all so considerate to us and so incredibly caring to our pup. When we brought her in, they all paid attention to her... pets, rubs, scratches, cooing, etc. They also immediately asked if they can carry her to avoid doing additional harm to her paw, and really helped make sure we were comfortable as they took her back. They were also very considerate and kept us informed and updated every step of the way throughout the whole process. They even gave us constant updates on surgery day, which really helped keep the nerves and worry at bay while we waited for surgery to be over. When it was time for questions, they were extremely helpful and not only answered our questions but also engaged in further conversation about additional things we can be doing to help our pup in recovery, and everything else moving forward. Laura, our Vet Tech, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She was right there with us the whole time going back through anything and everything we wanted to discuss. Dr. Kim Garcia, our GP for surgery day, was so incredibly kind, reassuring, and helpful. We spoke with her numerous times throughout surgery day and she really helped elevate our worries. We also really appreciated that she was so willing to engage in deep conversation to help us better understand how to help our pup recover the best way possible. Dr. Carlos Garcia, our Orthopedic Surgeon, was so incredibly helpful. In our consultation, we had a lot of questions and wanted to understand everything. We were a little afraid we would be a nuisance, but Dr. Garcia broke that ice immediately and dove right in. He fully addressed all of our concerns, was more than open to discussing our thoughts and ideas, and really helped us understand everything related to the surgery and our pups healing process. The level of compassion he has for the animals is more than admirable and is exactly what we were looking for, someone who truly cares about healing our pup! Here, we found a place where our dog was actually going to be cared for, and that is what matters most. Thank you everyone at Harborside for helping our little Ocean! She holds such a big piece of our hearts, and now you do too. Thank you!!!

I have been coming here since 2017 with my 2 animals (dog and cat) and every single time, the staff is incredibly kind and goes above and beyond for us and each pet that enters. They are extremely accomodating and informative. Dr. Walk and Garcia are the best!!
