How to Save Money at Dr.Stenzel Clearwater Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Did a really good job in getting my little brownie to behave himself having his nails done. Also great thorough examination that very next day a couple of issues noted but nothing spectacular. Was able to give him the shot for hearts which makes my life easier

My only complaint here is the receptionist (not Jessica). Jessica is very comforting and welcoming, while the other receptionist makes me feel like I’m a bother or talks to me like I’m stupid. It’s a little disheartening as this is the place I’ve brought my fur babies for over 12 years. I love every other aspect of this place though.

I took my litter of 4 French bulldog puppies here today to get their first set of shots and wormed and health certificates. I called before I made appt to get complete total so I would know up front how much it would cost me. I had my phone on speaker as I was driving and my son was sitting in car beside me. The lady on phone said it would be 128 and some change I asked again is that for all pups or each one? She said that’s total cost for all pups. So getting to visit today which is 3days later from when I called and made appt and pups was vaccinated and wormed(taken out of exam room where we were at so couldn’t see anything they did) then go to check out and total is 356 and some change. I questioned the bill as I stated I was quoted 128 total and that was a big difference. Lady that originally took my call said oh I didn’t tell you that the total was going to be 128. Needless to say I had to pay the 356 which won’t happen again as that’s highway robbery when vets get work meds given to them for samples that they give out at 8wk vet exams to be charged 83 for that. Past that one of my pups started having reaction to shots given which Frenchies are prone to and needed to be seen I called animal clinic just to get recording to take to blue pearl emergency clinic. Not one person to answer phone to care for pups that you charged me 356 for couple hours prior. Very poor excuse for vet services and even worse practices. My pup could die but who cares right animal clinic got their 356 and that’s all they are worried about. Will never ever bring another one of my animals here and will definitely tell Everyone to steer clear away from here. This place is all about the money and not the animals. And lied to get more money when they quote one price and then go to pay for services and it’s totally a whole other price and triple the original cost.

Website Says they accept urgent care and would try and fit into schedule. But the receptionist was very rude & had no interest in trying to fit Bella to be seen, luckily as I was leaving to find a vet that would see Bella the vet came in, I told him they couldn't see my dog but can you tell whats on her face infection or allergy, he said go inside & register we'll take a look at her. The vet was great, other staff were great, very good of them to squeeze Bella in. I would recommend this vet to anyone, fair prices for great work. Thank you again !!

I started being a client of Dr Stenzel since 1992. He started at East Bay Animal Clinic, where I was going at that time. This is where I met this awesome Doctor of Veterinary medicine. Then he started his own Vet service, at Clearwater Animal Clinic, and I moved over to this one. He is an awesome Vet and so compassionate. Such an awesome Doctor!! Kathy Wells
