How to Save Money at Vet Now Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took extra special care of my baby Chopper he is doing so much better after they took him in without any hesitation! They were extremely sympathetic and calm during the ordeal and made me feel relieved that he was in safe hands. Thank you to the 2 vet techs and Dr.Tillman !!!!

I cannot say enough positive things about the caring staff here. All of the ladies working last night were so compassionate and so helpful with my neighbors and their dog. Animal ER of SW Florida has come to the rescue once before. They have gone above and beyond both times I have been there. Please give them a break. With all the worker shortages, you cannot expect people to work 24 hours a day with limited staff. There just isn't enough coverage. It's not easy being veterinary staff. Medical doctors for humans study the anatomy of one mammal. Many veterinary staff must study the anatomy of multiple mammals, reptiles, avians, and etcetera. I have never met a veterinary employee that does not wholeheartedly and genuinely care for an animal. They would not be in the industry if they didn't love all animals/wildlife. I recommend checking hours of all businesses before visiting. With the previously mentioned worker shortages and the fact that we were devastated by a major hurricane, not everything is fully operational or back to original hours. Animal ER of SW Florida, thank you for all your help last night. Again, all of you ladies are amazing.

We had a great experience here. My dog cut her paw open trying to escape our fence. We called Animal ER at 5:30 to see if they were available, arrived at 5:45 and by 6:30, our baby was good to go. The staff was very friendly, super quick and the price was affordable. We will definitely come back for any other emergencies.

First Last

Came in on April 10th in the afternoon with my sweet cat Jessica who got a fishing lure hooked in her upper lip. (I know! Crazy!) A quick and easy experience from start to finish, the vet and staff were great, sorry I didn’t get names at the time. The visit was very affordable and we were out of there in what felt like less than an hour. The next day they sent her records and even called to check up. At the desk they were selling painted rocks for an animal charity, it was so sweet that the staff takes time to do that. P.S. To the owner of the sweet puppy named Glade I met in the parking lot, I’ve been praying for y’all! Hope he is okay!

Last Thursday night our 7 year old Golden retriever who had been sick for a couple days suddenly went down hill very quickly. We had been in constant contact with our vet who couldn't help and advised us to take him to the ER. Our boy was over 100 lbs, and it took 3 of us to get him wrapped in blankets and loaded into the back of my SUV. I phoned them that we were on the way, and that the vet was sending over all the testing. Sadly, our poor Furry Murray took his last breath as we were backing up to the door of the ER. My husband ran in, speechless in tears, and the woman behind the counter just said "Oh my God" and came running outside. I was hysterical. This AMAZING woman said "move" and as I stepped back she scooped him up and ran him into the room. I ran after them and she asked my husband permission to start CPR. I remember dropping to me knees sobbing as she began chest compression. They couldn't get his heartbeat back. Needless to say we were a wreck. The women were so compassionate and apologetic. They took us to a separate room where minutes later they brought him in on a table so we could say goodbye in private. The woman had taken a syringe full of liquid from his stomach and explained that he had a tumor that ruptured, and he had severe internal bleeding. Nothing could have been done to save him. Once we had said our goodbyes we went to leave. They didn't charge for attempting CPR, or any other BS that a lot of ER vets do when they take advantage of people who are suffering. They only charged us for the cost of cremation and the paw print we asked for. I wish I knew the name of the woman who ran out to pick him up, and those that assisted during CPR. I want to thank her for being so selfless and so compassionate. That night it all happened so fast, I can't picture the faces of the angels that tried to help us. All I can do is say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts for trying your best. When we return to pick up his ashes I hope you will accept these paw print decals to give to other fur parents. I know it's not much, I'm making as many as I can until then, but I'm hoping it will help bring a little peace to some. Thank you again for your quick medical attention, your grace and most importantly your compassion. God Bless
