How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center of Brooksville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give this place a million stars, I would! These Dr's and the vet techs are literally life savers! My little girl has been sick for quite a while. Last week, a very sweet lady I know called and got my girl a appointment. They took her in even though they were booked. We took her in and they had to do emergency surgery because she had a squeaker stuck in her stomach. Fast forward, she comes home and on Saturday we noticed something was seriously wrong. My husband calls back up there and they tell him to bring her back in. She had to have another emergency surgery because her intestines were twisted. Dr Karen took my little girl in last minute again and stayed after closing to do the surgery. Also, since they were closed, they went and check on her every three hours and kept us updated on how she was doing. Today, my little girl gets to come home! These people are true angels over there! Renesmee is scared of everyone and everything. She doesn't let anyone pet her or get close to her. She absolutely loves the people who work at this hospital, and they love her. They treat the animals with so much love and care, like they were their own. I absolutely love this place, and I won't be taking her or any of my other animals anywhere else!

I took my little guy, Scout to get a check up and vaccines this morning and everyone was so kind and patient with him! He is a rescue doggo with lots of reactivity/fear aggression around new people & they were so calm even though he was upset (which made this nervous dog mom more at ease!) definitely recommend them especially if you have a more nervous or reactive dog who is not always successful with every vet.

Nothing but great things to say about this wonderful team. I took my fur baby to this facility for evaluation on dental cleaning. The vibe is very positive, everyone is very attentive. Also, they were helpful and understanding to my baby's needs. Thank you so much for the kind work you all do. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

They took real great care of two of our dogs, one had sliced his ear almost in half and it had got infected. His ear looks great now and you have to really look to see where he was hurt. It really improved quickly. Our geriatric chihuahua had a froth on her leg that got really bad and infected and had some horribly dirty teeth. With good news she survived the surgery and has been able to keep her leg so far and is looking better everyday. Her teeth turned out so good and her breath smells tons better! Thank you so much. Will definitely be back

We've been going here for many years and whether it's been for new pups or kittens they are treated like they are a part of their own family. I just had my late husband's husky Winter in there, she was really sick and not sure if she was going to make it. I unfortunately couldn't get her in as they were extremely busy, so I made a bad decision and took her to River Ridge and that nearly killed her and cost me about $700 for nothing except all the meds she didn't even need or help her. I was able to get her in to animal medical center that Monday, it was touch and go for Winter for a few days, but thanks to Dr Shelly and her team Jessica and others that I don't know all their names but they didn't and wouldn't give up on her! Winter has recovered and back to her old mischievous self! I couldn't be more greatful for their dedication and determination to Winter! As I mentioned we've been coming here for years and now they have 3 amazing Dr 's all of which have taken care of all our fur babies!
