How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Over the past several years I have had to bring 4 pets to Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon with procedures ranging from overnight IV fluids to euthanasia. Their prices are more reasonable than other local emergency animal hospitals. Most recently, Dr. Flores treated my cat who suffered from a urinary obstruction. She thoroughly explained the expected procedures and prognosis and communicated with my veterinary clinic with a successful outcome. I would not hesitate to return again in the event of a future veterinary emergency.

Just had to take my dog here tonight for a broken/inflamed nail and they took such great care of her. Dr. Schimmel and the entire staff was very caring and compassionate. She also took the time to explain what testing would be performed and why it was indicated. I would absolutely recommend taking your animal here if they need emergency care.

My dog King collapsed Sunday 3/10 and that was not normal for him. He kept walking sideways. He wouldn’t eat or drink so I brought him to this emergency early afternoon. Dr. Rojas was nice but she stated he had stomach issues and arthritis. I felt that wasn’t the case but I am not a doctor. The next day, 3/11, I arrived back approx 610pm for Kings rapid decline. I ended up having to put my Kingy down because he kept circling left and would collapse. I was informed he had a brain tumor. Dr. Kalaf was great and went over the entire process with me. I am grateful that I wasn’t charged the emergency fee again since I was just there. I felt I was in good hands that night. I am just heartbroken and upset about my $482 visit Sunday. I donated the food and medicine since they wouldn’t give me a refund. A misdiagnosis is why I don’t plan on coming back here again. I only recommend this vet if they get Dr. Kalaf. Went to the BBB, still left dissatisfied. Dr. Rojas kept saying because of my finances she couldn’t further see but that obviously meant she knew it was something worse. He DIED the next day so she kept wanting me to spend money just to lose him. If I had all the money like she said I would’ve paid thousands to leave home overnight for him to still die. I still have trauma from trying to force pills down my dogs throat who hadn’t ate and drank. I would’ve felt better if she said I didn’t have much time than to try and take as much money they could get. Sorry for my loss isn’t good enough. UPDATING: I had already called and left a VM March 14, 2024 along with sending an email. I received no phone call back and no response to my email. I went to BBB to get a refund for the misdiagnosis. Dr. Rojas stated due to my finances we couldn’t further test which means she knew it was something more. The fact that my finances are being blamed is unacceptable because he died the next day. All this place cares about is taking your money. I could’ve continued coming back since I have another dog but since the owner is greedy and won’t give a refund for the misdiagnosis, I will NEVER come back and DO NOT reccommend coming here at all. I lost my dog and $482 for him to die the next day. She could’ve said I didn’t have much time versus trying to charge me for more testing. Usually businesses try to make it right with their customers. Such a shame I have also reached out to Channel 8 to bring awareness for this sorry excuse of a vet.

I just wanna say thank you to Dr. Flores, Sarah, And Nate Our dog G Has a foreign body stuck in his intestines, and I was planning on putting him down today because I could not afford the surgery. They called around everywhere until they could find someone who would work with the price I could afford. And I appreciate them because I would’ve had to say goodbye to my big baby If it wasn’t for them Working diligently G wouldn’t have had another chance . Thank you so much! I am so glad I went to this emergency vet. At the time I went, they weren’t that busy. Great communication

It’s hard to give a good review when the outcome is not what you hoped for. Our dog, Sparky, passed away early this morning. He was very sick and we know that the staff and Dr.s did everything they could do to try and save him. They were very kind and empathetic to us. Allowed time for lots of questions, explained everything thoroughly and kept him comfortable and pain free during treatment. Dr Flores and Sierra were amazing to Sparky and to us. It is a very busy clinic and they have a very tough job. We appreciate everything they did for us.
