How to Save Money at University Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Dr. Sam is incredibly knowledgeable of reptiles. It’s hard to find a good reptile vet, but after my first appointment with her today I am fully confident that she will be able to help me get my bearded dragon back to health. They were thorough with their questioning of her diet and husbandry, which I absolutely love because a lot of people don’t provide the correct care to their beardies. It’s very evident that she knows what she’s talking about. I initially brought my beardie to another exotics vet (out of respect for this vet, I will not name the clinic), and I questioned the other vets treatment plan. Dr. Sam confirmed that I was providing the correct care, and thoroughly examined my pet. She took the time to explain what they’ll be looking for with her blood work, and was very gracious when my beardie relieved herself all over the exam table (lol) After dealing with one vet that I was very unsure about, seeing Dr. Sam has given me a sense of hope and optimism I haven’t felt in weeks. The staff is incredibly friendly and kind, and my beardie was handled carefully and gently. Everyone treated her like they would treat a cat or a dog, which I haven’t encountered with previous vets. The tech was very sweet to her and treated her like a living thing and not an inanimate object. I couldn’t be happier. I will be staying with Dr. Sam going forward, and can confidently recommend anyone in the Sarasota/Bradenton area to her. She truly cares about your pet, and she knows her stuff. I look forward to working with her exclusively. Thank you, Dr. Sam, for everything you do, and for being so kind to my scaly child.

It was difficult to get a doctor for my rabbit because it is an exotic animal and they offered me the fastest appointment. They attended me at the time of my appointment without setbacks. They took the time to learn about my concerns and clarified all my questions. Thank you!!

Love Dr. Velic. She is very knowledgeable and understanding with my dogs. I’m confident with the treatments she recommends and I know she LOVES taking care of my neurotic but sweet girls. They act terrified of her but it’s nothing personal. Thank you very much.

I had an exceptional experience with University Animal Clinic. When it came to the care of my beloved dog, Otis, they went above and beyond my expectations. The staff was not only knowledgeable and skilled, but also compassionate and caring. They treated Otis with the utmost respect and provided him with excellent veterinary care. One aspect that stood out to me was their reasonable pricing. They offered top-notch service without breaking the bank. It was refreshing to find a veterinary care provider that understands the importance of affordable care without compromising on quality. The level of service at University Animal Clinic was truly commendable. From scheduling appointments to follow-up care, they were professional and efficient. The staff was always friendly, approachable, and ready to address any concerns or questions I had. Their dedication to providing a positive experience for both the pets and their owners was evident throughout every interaction. I highly recommend University Animal Clinic to anyone seeking exceptional veterinary care for their furry companions. They have a winning combination of expertise, affordability, and outstanding service. Otis and I are grateful for the wonderful care we received, and we will definitely continue entrusting them with our pet's well-being in the future.

They are not there when you need them most. Our 2 year old pet (who has been seen by this practice since 8 weeks old) needed quick assistance diagnosing a swollen eye. When I called Monday around 9 AM I was told that they are fully booked and to go to the ER. Eyes are critical and need immediate attention. They left me with no other choice but to wait hours at the Animal ER…while I wait I have plenty of time to search for a new veterinarian. Needless to say I am very disappointed with the lack of concern or follow up on our pet’s condition. Just saw your response to my review. Not sure what your response refers to. I spoke to Sam I believe on the phone a few days after the event. He was much more empathetic to my concerns than your response. First of all I have two girl puppies that have been seen by your Staff since eight weeks old (not a “he”). Second of all the gentleman I spoke to (the day after the event) agreed that my dissatisfaction was due to the lack of concern your staff had for my pet. At the time we didn’t think it was an emergency, she just needed to be seen. The only thing I heard from your was to go someplace else. Sugarcoat your actions however it pleases you, I know better…
