How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Unbelievably horrible experience with the doctors at Banfield. I brought my cat in with very specific symptoms that I noticed and explained these to the nurse. They ignored everything I mentioned and recommended expensive X-Rays ($400) and mentioned that they were covered by the highest tier of their wellness plan. (Scam) This wellness plan covers almost nothing besides the vet visit itself, with tests not covered, medicines not covered, procedures not covered. For $60+ a month. The doctors do not care about your animal. They don't care about making your animal feel better or get healthy, they want to milk you for evey single dollar they can get out of you.

Wow, just wanna express how scammers this guys are. I paid for the plan but nothing is included. If you looking for a COMPLETELY WASTE OF MONEY then you are in the right place. It’s unbelievable they are super nice in the begging, then all the crazy bills are showing up. NEVER GO TO THIS STORE. NEVER!

Horrible horrible customer service !! I was in Banfield for a year long. Every single time I went for a visit or concern I would wait way over my scheduled time. I would ask questions they would give me general solutions or try to push different treatments for a lot of money that never really helped. I had other vets tell me the treatments that were given to my pet were not the right treatments or useless for the issue my pet had. They work only by protocol and not be human instincts and what’s best for the pet. There are some good doctors there but some that don’t care about you or your pet whatsoever. Never going back there (and I never go out of my way to write negative reviews but this is just wow)

I've been with Banfield since 2013 ..but now that is my dog getting old and having issues i see this nis the worst place to bring your pup in ! hear this out ! i took her in in feb 17 for a exam as usal .. they said she fine the visit itself cost 374$ but if you on the plane they will deduce that monthly from your pay .. in April my dog got sick and i took her in ! one vet who told me to do all the test Xray around 300$ + 169 to send it to the lab 400$ plus the visit and few b12 shoots later it comes up to 528$ .. results cam in and they said they cant see what it is and now i need to do ultra sound test that cost from 500 to 700$ ! i try to call and cancel my dog plan but they said because of those 2 visits i still have a balance of 400$ on my account ... so 1000$ in and i still don't have any answers .. Vets some don't even speak English some are so rude when you turning the exams down.. all the money i paid over the years seems not enough to get my pup back on her feet .. DO NOT GET THIS PLAN HERE ITS MUCH BETTER TO TAKE IT TO SOME LOCAL SMALL VET THEN HERE ! IF YOU TRY TO CANCEL YOUR PLAN THEY WILL STILL BILL YOU PRIER FOR THE VISITS YOU DONE EACH VISIT IS AROUND 400$!! BE AWEAR
