How to Save Money at Countryside Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely AMAZING! Our vet closed in Sept and our 13 y/o Mollie girl needed to be seen rather quickly. I called on Friday morning and with the weekend approaching and a crazy work schedule ahead; Echo and the wonder team made every effort to get us in and seen this very morning, as a new patient! The medical staff was superb and spoke with my hubby about everything going on (even had him put me on speaker as I was at work) and kept me in the loop as well. Our gracious doc took her time, recognized and shared with us things we had noticed, but would not have thought to ask right then and there, putting my heart and mind at ease. This fine group of medical professionals are truly in a league of their own and are highly recommended. It is quite apparent they love what they do, where the work and have a devout love for animals. ps…. on Friday morning Mollie could barely walk or put any pressure on her hind leg due to a swollen and infected digit. This morning, Monday (three days later) she has no limp, zero shaking, is putting all her weight down, scratched the grass after her potty and even trotted along side me on our walk as proud as could be! THANK YOU! Katy & Joel P.

I bought my niece's cat to Countryside Animal Hospital for an emergency visit. Not only was the staff kind, and accommodating with a quick appointment, I was amazed on how Dr. Schuder and her assistant took care of Mia, Mia! I appreciated everything she did for us that day. And, again, 9 days out post-op when our beloved kitty reopened her wound! Dr. Pringle and his assistant were comforting and did a great job fixing her. Everyone in the entire office is helpful and I appreciate them for their care and concern. I would recommend them hands down!

300$$$$ to Only put my 7lb senior dog to sleep. Yes. $ 300 bucks on top of the heartbreak of losing our poodle after 17 years of having her part of our family we had no choice to leave once told ahead of time of how much we would be charged due to this being a emergency to get her out of pain and suffering right then. So yes, we were given the option but who leaves during a time you Need help at a hard time to comfort a part of your family after waiting in the parking lot already for almost a hour for the Vet to show up also our Family Veterinarian was closed that day or we would have went to her. The bill break down shows how this place really “cares”.Euthanasia $71. (7.6lbs) + Anesthesia $75. + IV $20. + reg medical waste fee $5.96 + $73. Work in Additional fee + $55. Office Visit. Doesn’t that show how much they care about people and animals in need.. Btw. We brought her home to bury her. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
