How to Save Money at Delmarva Animal Emergency Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have so many good things to say! Dr.Hunt(?), Brie, Trista, Theresa(?), and one more lady she had kind of short brown hair in a ponytail with bangs, were the absolute sweetest people. My dog got into something on a Friday night that got lodged in his stomach and he was going down hill very quickly. They offered advice over the phone and gave options of places for me to go other than them since they were farther away for me. I ended up having to take him down there because they were the only one with a surgeon on hand. As soon as I pulled in the sweetest vet tech (girl with bangs and ponytail) came out and got our little dog buddy even tho they there was a TON of cars there they were so prompt on getting him. They kept me updated on everything! Doctor called me and then vet tech came out and calmed me down and encouraged me that there were ways to pay other than up front since it was gonna be a big bill.. Brie and I believe Theresa dealt with all my calls - so patiently as I wanted updates every few hours. I just cannot say enough good things about this place… All the bad reviews saying they just want your animal to die I have to say it couldn’t have been further from the truth in my situation. They did everything they possibly could help my dog immediately!

I really cannot thank them enough. My dog was attacked by another dog last night. We called DAEC, they picked up the phone immediately and gave us the instructions for patient intake. Our dog’s throat was basically ripped open and they successfully put him back together. He is very lucky to be alive right now and it’s largely thanks to them. They were very level-headed during one of the worst nights of our lives and gave us updates throughout the night/morning. They saved my baby’s life and I will never know how to truly repay them. They were very compassionate towards us and our boy and were patient with us during this incredibly difficult time. The cost was also not nearly as bad as I was afraid it would be. My dog had to have many things done and it still ended up being much less than we were expecting. Dr. Gruber, Sarah, Morgan, and April were all lifesavers and we owe them so much gratitude.

If I could give zero stars I would! I brought my dog into be seen this evening, because she cut her foot and was bleeding. I waited 1 hour!! and the only thing that happened was the bleeding worsened, she was given medicine and Dr. Gruber examined her for a minute. I asked staff MULTIPLE times for help because my dog was DRIPPING BLOOD into PUDDLES! and nobody came to help. I’m not sure of the vet techs name but she was RUDE! and should be re trained. After over an hour of waiting, I asked for them to bandage my dog up so I can go home and take her elsewhere, I was told to wait and they’ll get to me when they can. So I walked out to my car, and the vet tech approached my vehicle with a very nasty look on her face and asked for payment. When I said I wouldn’t be paying for the service that WASNT RECEIVED, she shooed me with her hand and walked back inside. I WILL BE VISITING THIS UPCOMING WEEK TO SPEAK TO MANAGEMENT!

My husband recently took our two year old Bernese Mountain Dog there after we couldn’t locate the source on itch/wound on his neck. Everyone my husband and daughter met that night was beyond pleasant and patient. Although it was a long visit (approx 3 hours), every step was explained as tests were performed and results waited upon. Staff even encouraged them to go grab dinner when one test would take 30 mins for results. Long story short we have a big boy back at home, one of a kind haircut, cone of shame, but with a wagging tail and big personality. Thank you for taking such amazing care of our dog and humans that night!

I just dropped off my young puppy here last night because she unfortunately tested for parvo after I got her from a breeder the day before. The staff here went above and WAY beyond to make sure they communicated everything to me and they called/texted regularly with updates. Every single person I spoke with exhibited the utmost kindness and empathy. I cannot say enough good things about this hospital. SO glad they were able to help my precious puppy and save her life!!
