How to Save Money at Bond Vet - Westport

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We were temporarily in Connecticut when my dog began squinting in one eye. I wanted to get it checked out after a couple days but didn't want to go to an emergency vet. I was able to easily schedule an appointment on their website the morning of, without having to fill out a bunch of paperwork or creating an account. We were seen promptly when we arrived, and they also called my primary vet in Virginia to get his medical history. The vet and assistants were thorough in their checks and there was no shortage of treats available throughout the appointment. Left with peace of mind and some steroid eye drops to administer over the next 7 days. Thank you guys!

I am so grateful to have been referred to Bond Vet! The entire experience was fantastic, starting with their online booking to secure an emergency visit...Surprisingly easy to use and actually worked seamlessly. The staff were gems, incredibly kind and caring, making both my cat and me feel we were in good hands during a stressful appt. They truly went above and beyond in providing compassionate care, and I couldn't be happier with the service. Highly recommend Bond Vet to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this vet!!! My fur baby saw his vet and said it was nothing, 2 weeks later he is in pain and can't walk. Made an urgent care appointment and was seen on a Sunday. Great office, great provider and staff. Much less expensive than the animal er and no long wait time. Was in and out within 30 minutes. Love that there is an online portal I can have access to and see exactly what they did at the visit. Will be switching to Bond Vet as my dogs new vet... Best experience ever....

If you have your dog euthanized there, don't expect to receive a call to pick up the ashes OR a call at all. I had my dog euthanized on September 8th. On September 12th the ashes were returned to the clinic. The only reason I know this is because I called Final Gift, the company that does the cremation. But no one called me. Today is September 21st. No Call. I've called several Bond Vet numbers. I believe it is a call center. Don't expect any compassionate responses from anyone. They are cold. They don't seem interested. I think the company is shady. Do yourself a favor. Don't use Bond Vet. I recommend Norwalk Veterinary Hospital. The staff there is super friendly and welcoming. I would have gone there if it was during the week. If you have an emergency, I know it is more expensive but go to VCA, also in Norwalk. The young guy at reception, Martin, was not welcoming at all. I think he hates his job. Do yourself a favor. Don't use Bond Vet. I am worried that I will not get my pet's ashes back. If I do, I will let everyone know. Please pray that I get my pet's ashes back. And let's see if I get a response and an apology.

Staff is very friendly, understanding and professional. Facility is really modern and clean. Appreciate that they have weekend hours (Sat & Sun) at the Westport location and provide the convenience of scheduling online appointments. Be sure of the appointment day/time you select and be on time. Rightly, there are costs for being more than 10 mins late to scheduled appointments and/or rescheduling your appointment within a certain window of your appointment time. Overall, I’d recommend this practice and would return for future services (forgot to take pics…grr 😅)
