How to Save Money at VCA Baybrook Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I absolutely adore the VCA Baybrook Animal Hospital. They are super accommodating to my Corgi’s needs. My dog does not do well with other animals in the waiting area. They cleared the area right away and my dog did absolutely wonderful with the Vet and Vet tech. She is very shy when it comes to her paws, but she opened up with these individuals. I am so glad we connected with these individuals.

I’ve had a few visits to VCA and the visits were good. Today I was at the front desk checking in my dog and the receptionist had quite an attitude. I asked her to note the dog food my pet eats and she apparently was annoyed by that request. I asked her if it was a problem. Anyone who comes to VCA is obviously stressed out, no one needs to that type of attitude.

After countless visits to other veterinary facilities for the past 8 months with zero relief, Fendi prolapsed 2 weeks ago today. I rushed her to Corneil Hospital in Stamford, CT for a reduction and follow up care 10 days later at VCA. Dr. Ermilio and the staff at Milford VCA are phenomenal. They’re all pleasant and their heart is definitely where it needs to be, which is the well being of the animals under their care. It is evident they’re not there to take people’s money and mask the issues with pets. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at other veterinary facilities closer to my home with absolutely no cure for the parasitic infection (Giardia) Fendi had. We had visits in vet offices every month-every other month and after hundreds of dollars her issues remained. With the combination of care Fendi received from Corneil and VCA she is the most outgoing and playful I’ve ever seen her since I purchased her 8 months ago. The breeder in which I purchased her from sold her with the parasitic infection and I wasn’t educated about it much to know how aggressive it was. Dr. Ermilio and staff was great!!! She was only in the office Tuesday and for the first time in 8 months her stool is blood free and liquid free!! She has mushy, but formed stool! Dr. Ermilio prescribed her Hill’s Science Biome diet and she told me I would see a difference within days, welp..she knows her stuff because sure enough, in days…Fendi is doing great!!!! She’s enjoying car rides and living a life! Food transition was a bit difficult because she’s so spoiled and picky, but after leaving her no other options, now she’s chowing down on her new meal plan. Thank you to the incredible staff at VCA for catering to our needs and helping restore the health of my puppy.

Accused my wife and I of “abusing” our dog when we questioned additional $1000+ charges for dental work and screenings unrelated to our primary concerns. They’ll attempt to overcharge you and try to guilt you into into it. We’re done with this clinic.

Dear Dr. Ermilio and Baybrook Animal Hospital Caregivers I wanted to extend my gratitude for the professionalism and compassion you showed to my family when we came to you with our beloved dog Gigi. It was a very difficult time for all of us but you explained every possible scenario of what we were facing with Gig and the different paths forward. You seemed to know just what to say and did so with the sincerest compassion. My sweat little girl has always been in the best of care with all the Doctors, caregivers and staff of Baybrook Animal Hospital throughout her whole life and for that I am so grateful.
