How to Save Money at Pieper Veterinary
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Update 8/23/24: Ally the Hospital Manager reached out to me to check on Caboose and discuss the issue with the splint. She was very concerned, helpful and appreciative for the feedback. It does not change what happened, but I do believe she will address the issue with some additional staff education. Thanks to Ally for reaching out, I am very satisfied with how they dealt with the situation. ******************** Update 8/13/24: unfortunately, I did not realize that Pieper cut the splint so sharply, and since it was made out of very hard plastic, it dug into my dog’s foot and caused a puncture wound after the first five days. I had a follow up with my regular vet at one week and the wound was infected, so my dog is now on antibiotics as well as gabapentin for pain and carprofen for anti-inflammatory. I am attaching photos of the splint that was cut by Pieper so you can see how sharp it was, and you can also see the residue of my dog’s blood from the sharp edge digging into his paw (on top of the fracture). Maybe they did the best that they could but my regular vet was able to create a different splint that fit him much better and he has been much more comfortable with. So I’m not so sure I would rate Pieper at five stars in retrospect (See previous review below), given the high price & subsequent problems with the infected wound. Perhaps if they had cut the splint a little better and put more padding down It would’ve avoided an Infected wound and a lot of pain from my pup. But there are not many Urgent Care vets to choose from around here, and this one has the best reputation. *********** Previous review 7/24: A bit of a wait even though no one else waiting in the waiting room, and took quite a while for appointment, but I am very appreciative for and satisfied with the care, and how good staff/vet was with my pet. I appreciate that I was able to get my pet in that same morning

I cannot express enough how thankful I am to the staff and doctors. They were compassionate, understanding, caring and so much more. I thank you for all your help from the bottom of my heart. Though my baby has a long way to recover I am grateful she was able to see another day! Gracias 💕

I've brought two of my dogs here on different occasions. I've had to wait both times because of other emergencies. Both times I knew that they were dealing with true emergencies and I know that if my animal was in that situation they would have taken me first and this is why I will go back and also recommend them to others. They also took the time to explain to me what was wrong with my animal and went over meds that I would need to give them. They are compassionate. Thank you all! compassion!
