How to Save Money at Community Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have been going to Community Veterinary Clinic for the past 3 years after moving to Fairfield. I had tried two other veterinarians and had even gone back to my old vet in Redding before finding Dr. Bauer. I can’t say enough good things about CVC. They respond promptly to phone calls, call with results, check up on our dogs after being seen for routine vaccines or a medical problem. As a physician I recognize quality care and compassion. Plus, they are just great people: easy to talk to; good with my neurotic dogs; and just a happy place.

Super understanding and kind staff (including front desk, techs, and doctors)! I had one vet for a very long time and after we moved I was nervous about finding a new clinic. We're now bringing two pups there. Dr. Meade approaches veterinary care with real compassion and I'm so thankful for the time and great consideration she's taken to work with me on a good care plan for my senior sweet pea. Also, she seems to understand how nerve wracking it can be when you're not sure what's going on. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that Dr. Meade calls with test results ASAP. I also briefly met with Dr. Bauer during our visit and he was great and so kind as well. How the doggies are treated is my number one concern, but it's really a bonus how nice they are to the humans too. UPDATE 4/26/24 I had to post an update because of how deeply grateful I am for the exceptional care shown by Dr. Bauer, Dr. Meade, and the entire team at the clinic during my sweet girl's recent illness. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, I know they did everything possible to help her. They recognized how much we loved her and our desire to do everything possible within our financial limits. Their approach was to ensure we could provide Abby with the best care without letting finances stand in the way, prioritizing the most critical tests and treatments. When Dr. Bauer was on call after hours he was so supportive and responsive, and was never bothered or irritated when I reached out with questions or concerns (even though I'm pretty sure I woke him up on one occasion- so sorry for that one, Dr. Bauer). Dr. Bauer, Dr. Meade and all of the staff, Nina, Jan, Andrea, Carlos, and Kelly were like our own mini dedicated triage team that cared for Abby as if she were their own. Even though historically vet trips made her nervous, their gentleness won her over; by the end of her first week of daily treatment she was wagging and greeting everyone. Nina, one of Abby's favorite and most frequent vet techs, showed extraordinary dedication and care and also so much kindness and support to me (I was a wreck). Dr. Bauer and Dr. Meade are examples of the best in veterinary medicine. Their willingness to consult with colleagues underscores this. True experts in any field, but particularly in a constantly evolving field like medicine, understand that delivering the highest standard of care means actively engaging in lifelong professional development. They were even sincere and open to ideas that Dr. Google (me) brought up, I appreciated that they took me seriously even though they're the ones with the DVM. No one gave up on Abby, knowing she was an extremely active and lively senior with a great quality of life prior to her sudden illness. I knew they did everything they could. After she passed, the clinic sent a really thoughtful card, which further reflects their understanding and empathy. Everyone was so sympathetic and sensitive when I was blubbering away in an exam room/lobby (throughout the clinic to be honest). They earned my complete trust for their commitment to their little patients. I'm sure my update repeats some of the themes from my initial review, but, all of the positive qualities mentioned can't be emphasized enough.

Community Vet has been my two dog’s primary vet. I have not had to use them for anything other than check ups and vaccines, thankfully, until recently. As far as well-dog checks (I don’t know the veterinary term lol) they have always been great. However, a few weeks ago, my dog sliced her paw pad open. This occurred on a Sunday. I was able to have the dr on call paged right when it happened. He advised me, and I was able to avoid the ER. The following Monday, Dr. Bauer, who has been my dogs Dr, reached out. He talked through my concerns with me, showing great compassion and attention to detail. I sent in an image of the cut, and he advised me further on the correct course of action and wound care. I am a human nurse, and confident in my ability to cleanly dress wounds. He respected this skill set and worked with me to create a plan for treating my dog at home, under the caveat that if any signs of infection or delayed wound healing developed I should take her in immediately. I am happy to report that under his guidance, my dogs wound has almost completely healed with no complications. I am incredible happy with the care, compassion, and diligence with which Community Vet handled the entire situation and was able to calm me, a scared dog mom. I am also thankful that I was able to utilize their on-call service and avoid an ER visit and hefty bill. I would recommend this practice and their staff to anyone seeking a reliable and competent veterinary practice. Thank you Community Vet and Dr. Bauer.
