How to Save Money at Cutting Edge Veterinary Surgery, PC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Pacchiana's work as a member of the veterinary hospital staff at both a local practice and at a high volume 24hr emergency and speciality referral hospital. Dr. Pacchiana and his technician are exceptional. And the man has a heart of gold and has also helped local wildlife rehabilitators. If you need a surgeon who is highly skilled, experienced, and exceptional at his craft, look no further. I'd trust my pet's surgical needs to Cutting Edge Veterinary Surgery in a heartbeat.

Thank goodness for Gryn’s surgeon, Dr Philip Pacchiana, who provided unflagging patient calm experience during the endless post-surgery days after my dog’s first TPLO surgery. I didn’t hesitate choosing Dr Pacchiana again when Gryn’s other knee required TPLO surgery. Gryn is healing well and back to being her sassy self.

Hi Dr. Pacchiana, Now that we are about 6 months past Mayzie’s second TPLO surgery, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for all you did for her. Over the last month or so, we have eased Mayzie back into some of her favorite activities….hiking, playing fetch, and most recently going for a swim. We are seeing the dog that we had a year and a half ago before she got hurt and she is noticeably more happy and more herself. She is such an important part of our day to day life a we are so grateful to know she is healthy and happy again! — For anyone considering Dr. Pacchiana, We (and Mayzie!) assure you that your pup is in good hands :D

Dr. Phil Pacchiana performed two TPLO surgeries on my massive shepherd/pit/Aussie cattle dog mix. My Max was about 7y/o for the first surgery and about 8.5 when he needed the other knee done (2021). Not only were both surgeries extremely successful, but Dr. Pacchiana has been the most outstanding provider in terms of follow-up care. He provides his cell phone number on his website, so you reach him directly (which we all know is nearly impossible in this day and age)! I had a scary incident after the second operation where Max had ripped out his staples and sutures and the wound was open and deep. I called Dr. P around 8pm and he answered immediately and asked me to text photos of the incision. He advised me to get him to emergency care ASAP for fear of infection. He also promptly emailed me the surgical report and his notes on Max so I could provide it quickly for the emergency vet. It was almost midnight when they were finally able to see Max and to my amazement, the emergency vet was able to reach Dr. Pacchiana on the phone to discuss his case. He has been absolutely outstanding - providing his guidance on meds, rehab, etc. even weeks after surgery. He has never failed to respond to even non-urgent emails within half a day. I would never have anyone else do my dog’s surgery if Dr. Pacchiana is available! Thank you so much for being so attentive and helpful, it has provided me more relief than you know!

Dr. Pacchiana performed a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy on Toby, our 10 year old terrier mix, this past January, 2019. We received extremely concise and detailed written information on the surgery , final diagnosis and discharge instructions, as well as follow up care. Dr. Pacchiana assured us that we could contact him at any time if we had any concerns or questions. Toby's healing and recovery were without complications and we were very careful to follow Dr. Pacchiana's instructions. Toby did receive physical therapy for several weeks, which helped immensely. Toby is now back to living life without pain or limitations - playing ball, running and swimming . We cannot thank Dr. Pacchiana enough and recommend him highly! Bob and Cheryl Seaver
