How to Save Money at Church Ranch Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This vet hands down is one of the best bets I visited in the state... Nay... In the country. Dr Kay in particular takes his time to explain. He tells you the issue but most importantly why things are happening. As a dog owner the why is the most important and gives me insight into my dog's health. Furthermore their office is akin to some of the best hospitals I have seen. Very clean. Tons of sunlight. Look no further and come to this vet today!!!

So grateful to your clinic. We came in from Texas on the road to Estes Park. Yall fit us in when she was in pain within 2 hours. Thanks to you she had the pain meds she needed, and she was able to enjoy the remainder of the trip - hiking and all! Thank you for fitting in a fur baby that was a perfect stranger to you and being so kind! We were in and out within 45 minutes!

We have been bringing our animals here for little over a year for veterinary visits. The vets are great and helpful! We booked our 2 dogs for boarding over a weekend and that is when the communication broke down. They lost all records of one of our dogs, and we were told several times they would call us to sort it out. We ended up having to go in person to sort this out as they never returned any phone calls. We had to correct them 3 times that we wanted our dogs boarded in the same cage/run prior to bringing them in. The day of boarding they still had the dogs in their system in separate cages. There are A LOT of nickel and diming in their boarding policies. We were told we can pick up the dogs by 5pm, but they failed to mention they will charge you $24 per dog if they are not picked up by 10am. So we basically paid for another night of boarding at that point. I could keep going on about the lack of communication and disorganization. We were supposed to receive a call from their manage to explain how this disaster transpired, but that has yet to happen. We are not boarding our animals there again due to this lack of communication and disorganization. City Bark sounds like a great option as they are very organized and transparent with their pricing and packages.

Dr. Berdan was super reassuring and helped us get to the bottom of our cat’s behavioral issue! Grateful for how quickly we were able to pop in for a visit and how kind the whole staff was while we were there. Excited to have her as our vet moving forward.

No one wants to take their pet to the vet, but the staff here make it an enjoyable and easy experience. The open space in the lobby makes it easy when there are other pets nearby, we're often moved into a room within a minute of walking in for our appointment, but most of all the administrative and medical staff are great to work with. They often give us options to save money on treatments, and they're all very comforting.
