How to Save Money at South Platte Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
You should not that all the good reviews were from when this clinic was Rocky Monster and it was run by Dr Charlie, Anna, and Eric. I’ve been trying for 2 days to get my animals records with no response by phone or email. It has been bought by a corporation so everything that made them great is gone. Used to be I could send an email or call and get an immediate response. Such a shame. So sorry Dr Charlie had to sell

The best vet I have ever met, Dr. Charlie, who I have been with for years, @Rocky Monster Vet care, has now changed owners. And my 5 star is a 1. The new office manager (OM) is unhelpful, unclear in her communications, and blamed others for her actions. She misinformed me about their ability to treat my cat, who had recently been seen there after a bad fight and had an abscess under his eye that was not resolving. I called on a Tues, I sent pictures, called to confirm they were received no call back. Wed morning I called & asked if my email was received, no, but I could resend. I sent the pictures and was told that, yes this looks urgent, and was also told I was "in luck" they had an opening while their part time anesthesiologist was there, so he could be drugged and examined even if they couldn't completely put him out or do any procedures that day. I expressed I would drive 45 minutes each way to be seen, I would be taking almost a whole day off work to do this. I was told my cat would be examined at my appointment time, 1 pm, but I could bring him earlier to be sure I would make it for my 12 pm meeting, 1 pm appointment and school pick up at 3. When I arrived early at 11:15, I was told he would be examined after the current appointment. Great, I'll wait. 5 min later, go ahead an leave because it will be 30 min. I did not receive a call for an hour, at the only time I told them I would NOT be available. 1 pm appointment would have been fine, 30 minutes like I was told would be fine but of course nothing was communicated. I had to answer the call and leave my only meeting in case they needed permission to help my cat. On the call I was then told no, my animal could not be treated or even properly examined and I had been misinformed by the now gone for the day OM . The notes about my timing, my concerns, and why he was there were not communicated to the new vet, who told me she could not examine my cat further, she could not help him in any way and that the soonest he could be seen and assessed properly is a week and a half. They said he needed dental x-rays for no reason I could understand. I was told I needed to make a follow up appointment, even though I was concerned for my cats eye being injured by the abscess. I could not understand why he NEEDED a dental while the abscess on his face was the urgent matter. I kept explaining that this was not what I was told and I did not understand why this needed to happen. I tried to explain the dental was an aside and the abscess and his eye were my concern. She became frustrated, told me I was out of luck and get me scheduled to have my cats dental done. I go pick up my pet. I used the rest room and saw no one except the front desk. They left my cat there. I was offered a comp visit since they wasted my time which, I was very grateful for. I guarantee the office manager would not have done so. I get into my car and my cat jumped out of the top of his UNZIPPED carrier! THANK GOD it was not in the parking lot! He shook all the way home, which he has never done after any vet visit, there or other places. I can't imagine what happened this time. The next day I was able to get into DDFL vet. People there explained what was happening and could do an X-ray and exam on his abscess to determine if his eye was in danger. When they explained he was missing teeth under the abscess, surprise to me! I started to understand. They felt his eye was urgent and had a cancellation so he didn't have to wait until the following day. Thanks DDFL! I am an easy client if you just tell me the truth, give me clear times, and expectations. I spoke to the OM this morning, who became defensive when I told her she misinformed me, she tried to blame her receptionist for all communication issues, refused to take any responsibility for her actions and words, and told me this was obviously not the vet for me. I guess it's not anymore. :( Thank you Dr Charlie for years of compassionate care and clear communications. I am so sad to see the type of individual who is now running this clinic.

I was on the lookout for a new vet when Dr. Charlie was referred to me by several neighbors on Nextdoor. I wish I'd discovered her YEARS ago. My cat, Ittle, has been suffering with chronic hot spots for the last 7 years and my previous vet continually misdiagnosed her. Dr. Charlie solved the mystery and Ittle is finally healing. She's been working with me to keep her ongoing treatments affordable. I'm beyond grateful! Dr. Charlie actually cares! The entire staff is wonderful and kind. I strongly recommend them to everyone.

Absolutely Amazing!! Dr. Charlie is very knowledgeable and thorough. 10/10 best experience, answered all my questions, did not feel rushed at all, and also gave me a lot of information. Totally recommend this place. Especially if your pet has anxiety. Thank you

I had a very good visit with Jamie as she was examining my dog Yogi. I also really enjoyed the three page report that detailed his past visits. Excellent!
