How to Save Money at Highlands Ranch Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They have such love for the animals they see. I've been going there for years and am very satisfied with their level of care for my cat.

Great front desk staff that truly love animals and talented vets. I bring both of my cats, and everyone is so kind and gentle with my babies.

I have been going to this animal clinic for years. I was there a month ago for our pets yearly exam. They didn't give one of the dogs his distemper and rabies shots that he was due for. When I called to ask why, they couldn't give me a reason and said I needed to come back and pay the $65 exam fee in addition to the shot fees. I said that didn't make sense and asked Jennifer on the phone for the person in charge. She hung up on me. I went there to address the vet and ask about the issue. She was out on a lunch break and another staff member said the exam fee wouldn't be waived and she didn't know why the dog wasn't given the shots. She explained to me that they were short staffed and customers have been very rude. I don't think asking a question is rude. And I don't think asking for the person in charge warrants a person to hang up on you. This was a very disappointing and unprofessional experience. I'm waiting on a call back from the vet to see if she can explain why the shots were not given during the exam. I will probably take my pets to a new vet. This was very disappointing.

Highlands Ranch Animal Clinic has an amazing, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Our pup had a severe allergic reaction that presented as a firm mass on her paw. Throughout the treatment plan they provided top notch service, with Dr. Bleakley even calling us on her day off to check on the progress. They were able to get us in quickly in emergencies and were always prompt with exams and follow-up appointments. It's a ~20 minute drive as we moved after first choosing this office but well worth it for the care they gave our little Shiba.

It's been one year since my dog passed away at the age of nearly 13 from cancer...this vet bought her almost a full year of very positive time from her diagnosis with their expert surgery and follow-up, and I'm still grateful to them to this day. Considering that my dog had multiple tumors removed and biopsied, I felt that the price was very reasonable, and all of the staff was extremely knowledgeable, answering all of my many questions and helping me to really understand her diagnosis, options, and treatment. Molly loved them all too, and she looked forward to her visits, which were weekly at one point because they would change her bandages on one of her tougher incisions until it healed. When my dog did pass, the staff sent me a white rose and a poem about the Rainbow Bridge that brings me to tears even now. Thank you all so much for truly caring about my pup and giving me so much extra time to enjoy her company. ❤️
