How to Save Money at Monument View Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Incredible after hours and weekend emergency vet service. Will reuse in the future. Great responsive and friendly staff. They were slammed when I had to go in, but they worked very thoughtfully and efficiently to get my dog treated and cared for. I feel very fortunate to have them as a local option for if things hit the fan for my animal when my normal vet isn’t available.

Called to check on pricing to have my dog euthanized. Was told before we could proceed with euthanasia they would need to perform an exam that would be $190. Why does my animal need to be examined, so the vet can tell me she is dying. I already know this!! Overall it was going to be close to $600 to have it done here! I ended up taking my precious dog to another veterinary office, where you can see they really cared. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE IF THEY ARE NEAR END OF LIFE!

We are so thankful to have found this place and their new after hours clinic when we did. Our fur baby Wyatt had been sick for several days with GI bleeding and we had already been to our regular vet 4 times and the other ER vet once and he continued to deteriorate despite oral antibiotics and fluids under the skin 3 times in 3 days. We met Dr Megan at the after hours clinic as soon as they opened at 6 pm. They were very prompt and kind. They LISTENED to us and assessed our pup thoroughly. They were very loving and attentive to our dog and family. When all the labs and X-rays were complete they went over all the results with us and came up with a plan and gave us an estimate for everything. They let us ask tons of questions and never made us feel rushed or silly for asking. We decided to try IV fluids and IV antibiotics overnight and see if this helped him to turn the corner by morning and if not, Dr Megan was willing to stay late to do exploratory abdominal surgery. The staff were kind enough to let me stay in the room while they started his IV and got his fluids and antibiotics going which was huge for this nervous dog mom after watching him deteriorate over the last several days. He’s also never been kenneled in his life and as a sweet 6.5 year old golden retriever whose been sick for several days, I was worried the stress that would have on him as he was already very weak. As a nurse, who worked through the pandemic and tragically lost our other beloved Golden Waylon during the pandemic by having to drop him off at the other ER vet door, hand him over to strangers he didn’t know, make the horrible decision to let him go over the phone from the parking lot, then PAY FOR IT over the phone before we would be let in to be with him😭💔…It means so much to me to find a vet willing to offer this type of family centered care when the situation is appropriate. We don’t have kids. Our dogs are our kids!!! Thankfully Wyatt started to perk up a little bit after several hours of IV fluids and IV antibiotics. They walked him around every couple hours to keep things moving. By the morning he was looking much better thank goodness!!!! Starting to get some twinkle back in his eyes!!! We were able to avoid surgery and take our baby home to continue recovering from whatever horrible bug he had. I am beyond grateful to Dr. Megan Rivero and Sherissa and the other two lovely ladies (sorry I was sleep deprived and can’t remember everyone’s name) who helped save our Wyatt!!!! They were all so sweet, loving, kind, and compassionate. Do not hesitate to take your fur baby’s here! They were an answered prayer for us! Thank you all so much for being such kind humans!!!

Super impressed with this vet and the assistant. They saw our timid, rescue puppy after hours who needed to be sedated to have an abscess flushed in his mouth. He is fearful and anxious but they took their time with him. Our visit was affordable and we were in and out in a decent amount of time. Absolutely recommend!
