How to Save Money at Animal ER of the Western Slope

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It's always a scary experience when you have to take your dog urgently somewhere you don't know for care, but I took my dog to Animal ER yesterday and am so grateful I did. He ended up needing to be sedated and treated for multiple lacerations and puncture wounds. The team was kind and professional. They were VERY busy but got him comfortable with pair, medication as they addressed the more emergent cases. It was the best experience possible in a case like this, but what really impressed me is that someone called today to see how we were doing. Thank you Animal ER for taking care of me and Ziggy!!

The Vet was very knowledgeable and explained everything they were going to need to do to treat my dog. A cost range estimate was given to me before any treatment was done so I was able to make informed financial decisions, no price surprises. Most important to me was how all the staff treated me and especially how they treated my dog. Everyone there was wonderful and I also received a call the next day to check on how my dog was doing. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone that needs their pet seen in an emergency or urgently during non business hours of regular veterinary clinics.

Thank you so much for helping our baby! Hope is feeling a lot better now. I thought she swallowed a string, but Bebe and her team figured out the actual problem very quickly on top of it being a busy weekend night. Best vet experience in over 15 years, everyone in here was very knowledgeable, caring, and respectful. I wish I could use them as my regular vet. I wouldn't hesitate to put my trust in this crew again, thanks again and praying for the best for you and your business!

So we unfortunately had our neighbors dogs attack our dog under the fence in our yard this weekend. They almost ripped her arm off. It was so scary! We felt so bad for our baby girl Hopie, that we have had for 10 years. Shes getting old and I thought she was gonna lose her arm or have to be put down. Thank God that was not the case, due to our quick thinking of taking her to the Animal ER of the Western Slope on Sunday. They took immediate care of our fur baby and patched her back up, with the very best of care, and compassion. Now it's Wednesday, 3 days later, and Hope just went in for a 2nd bandage change, and it's healing up so well that no more bandages are needed. We are so blessed and thankful to have wonderful people like Kacee, and the compassionate Vets at Animal ER, to help us with our animals, in desperate times of need. Thank you all, again, so much, from the bottom of our hearts. God bless yall, and we couldn't recommend you guys enough!!! Hope will see yall next week to get her stitches out! -With many thanks and much appreciation...Hopes family!

So happy they were there for my good boy. They were incredibly but everyone was calm, friendly and kept me updated on how he was and everything they were doing. They treated him quickly and ensured he had something for his pain. Definitely recommend!
