How to Save Money at Midtown Veterinary Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
As a fellow veterinarian in the community, I have been blown away with the level of care, compassion, and expertise at Midtown. I specialize in home palliative care and hospice now and my ability to care for my own pets is a bit limited compared to when I was working in practice. Recently my older cat Sydney acutely became sick and Midtown was more than willing to fit her in same day even though I told them I could definitely take her in to an emergency clinic if needed. They were able to quickly perform in house lab work, radiographs, and organize a same day ultrasound. Dr. McCarthy even hand delivered a urine sample to CSU so we'd get urine culture results faster. Preliminary results from the tests were consistent with a severe kidney infection and they were able to start treatment right away. During Sydney's treatment over the coming days, I was able to meet and work with all of the doctors and they are all fantastic and caring. I received text messages with updates from the wonderful technical staff. Jane in reception was incredibly empathetic and also was quick to send invoices over to my pet insurance so I could get reimbursed. I am so glad Dr. McCarthy took the jump and opened this practice (right before COVID hit, I might add). It is an asset to the community and I'm grateful for all of the high level care they've provided to my pets. Thank you for everything!

Dr. McCarthy and her staff were incredibly accommodating when my dog was having sudden and acute health issues. My regular vet was booked and Midtown was able to work us in the same morning that I called. Not only did they provide highly competent and quality care, but kindness and compassion toward both me and my pup. They even continued to follow up consistently after he was released from their care. I would absolutely recommend this practice and will continue to use their services in the future. Top notch practice all around.

Caring, Competent and Compassionate - SO VERY TRUE! My almost 16 year old Cairn Terrier is getting exceptional care and I trust Dr. McCarthy completely. She is down to earth and very competent, tells me the options available to help him with his arthritis and other age related concerns. Everyone at Midtown is friendly, helpful and relaxed, which makes my pooch calm and relaxed. Great to be able to pick up his medication at clinic, very convenient. I highly recommend Midtown !

Me and my buddy had our first visit to Midtown Veterinary today. Everyone here was extremely friendly and willing to help in every way they could to make for a seem less visit. Our vet was knowledgeable and willing to answer and address as many questions or concerns that I could think of. They had an invoice ready for me BEFORE asking if I would like to proceed, which I highly appreciate and makes me feel even more confident that they truly care about both the customer and our beloved pets

I am leaving this review in honor of my now deceased cat named Pinkie. The most intelligent cat; let alone any animal my family has had the honor of knowing, was becoming sicker and more lethargic all of a sudden and we didn't know why. So logically we brought the 2 year old kitty up to Midtown Veterinary Medical Center for treatment as it was the closest nearby and offered same day appointments. I think I remember seeing a billboard in town regarding "Compassion!" My family and I's experience was only one of pure Apathy! A little on Pinkie: We adopted Pinkie off the streets in Denver and gave him all the treatment he needed. He was the runt of his litter and was born blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. A rare genetic off shoot of a Turkish Van Cat that loved water, walks on his leash, his family(including a dog), his feather dusters, and all his various tree houses. He had one blue eye and one green eye with a pure white coat. Beautiful with lots of personality. So you can only imagine how we felt when we were told how bad of people we were if we didn't shell out $950 "low-end" to $1250 "high end" for all sorts of tests and procedures including a $450 abdominal ultrasound....and we still had to be "prepared for him not to make it." That they were going to be "closing soon" and we would need to "arrange transportation to a nearby veterinary hospital" for an overnight stay that would cost at least around $1000 or so. By this point we are not trusting Dr. Wahlquist so much so I ask to leave with our cat and pay the exam fee. She obviously does not like this answer by her "the government does not subsidize pets" comment when I said we simply could not afford to pay thousands of dollars for the care despite how much we loved him. Anyways. We pay the exam fee of $85. We leave with our cat alive, shaved arm(that we did not agree to), a lot of questions, and a lot of emotions. So we frantically bring him back home to our kid then go to get pet supplies.... Only to get a phone call from our kid crying 10minutes later that the "police" was just there. It was actually animal control. Despite the vet telling us we could leave and that she would not prescribe any pain meds for Pinkie to die at home like she said he could she called animal control. And sent us a nice "How did we do? :) survey right afterwards. We bring Pinkie to another Vet of our choosing, which he ended up having to be euthanized at. At this veterinary hospital they will be getting a 5 star review too! Let that sink in! They ran simple blood work and his creatinine lvls were sky high. The poor little guy's kidneys gave out. Simple blood work. Simple answer, we knew what we had to do no matter how hard. Euthanize. So in honor of Pinkie I hope this serves as an UPDATE for Midtown Veterinary and the not so kind or not so understanding animal control woman we had the displeasure of dealing with. I hope this serves as a stark warning to all that care about their pets!
