How to Save Money at Friendship Hospital for Animals
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been going to Friendship for over 20 years and have always had the best of care for all of my furbabies. The staff is friendly and helpful with whatever I need. Dr. Smith has been my primary veterinarian and is wonderful with all my kiddos. I recently took my newly adopted pup to see Dr. Smith and she managed to give him a good checkup despite all of his wiggles. I have complete faith in their veterinarians and staff and never hesitate to call when necessary.

I had a wonderful experience with Friendship Hospital. Recently, my daughter's Guinea Pig became frighteningly lethargic. Thankfully I came across these folks online, as not all vets treat "exotic" animals. The Vet and staff gave my daughter's Cavy a thorough exam and were sensitive to her obvious discomfort. The Vet proposed a pragmatic treatment regimen, based on the exam, and ultimately it proved to be the right course of action. The entirety of the staff was polite and kind. Thank you!

The staff here is amazing. My puppy had eaten some chocolate and they were quick at getting him what he needed to get it up and out of his system. Aside from my dog however, the staff was very good about helping me in a time they knew I needed it. My card wasn’t working for my payment and I was stressing trying to get ahold of my bank. Both of my kids were with me causing a ruckus in the waiting room and one of the nurses came over with a basket of toys to help calm him - it worked instantly. When I was unable to get ahold of my bank, I told them that I needed to go directly to the bank to get cash out, they were very understanding of my situation and let me run to the bank and come back with my payment. Thank you so much Friendship staff! You were my saving grace in what was a very eventful morning.

Love, love, love this place! We worked with them to care for our previous senior dog, and they were extremely gentle and sincere in his final days. Therefore, we didn't hesitate to bring our newest addition to the family here to get his first check-up and renewed vaccines/ preventatives as well. They were patient and kind, taking time to build up trust with our skiddish boy. I also appreciated that they made sure we could enter an exam room immediately, avoiding other pets in the lobby (as he is reactive to other dogs/cats). Plus, checkout was easy. They were able to work with Care Credit and got us set up with a Paw Plan. We are so happy with the overall experience, from reception to the providers. Thank you, Friendship Team!

These folx helped us with the International Pet Health Certificate process so we could bring our cat with us on our long trip to Colombia! Their services were thorough, professional, and FAST. We got the certificate approved digitally within 2 days! It was pretty pricey but worth it given their stellar care for our pet, quick turnaround time, and accuracy with the tedious documents. Happily writing this review from Medellín with my gata querida right by my side, thanks to Friendship Hospital for Animals :)
