How to Save Money at Animal Works - Veterinary Surgery

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was very nervous dropping my puppy off for his neuter appointment as I was overwhelmed with all the things that COULD go wrong. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by 3 wonderful ladies with a warm and welcoming smile and they immediately came up to my pup to help calm him and welcome him in. I left feeling significantly better knowing myself and him were in great hands. Fast forward to post operation, Dr. Erickson called and gave wonderful and helpful information on post operation care. Overall, amazing work performed by the Doctor and staff and amazing care given to my puppy. They were extremely polite and friendly and took great care of my boy.

Easy to get an appointment! No AI responding the phone call. Great professionals! No waiting, great vibrations clinic, attentive and friendly staff and, above all, excellent service! My dog received the surgery she needed, on the time that was convenient for me. I drove 88 miles to get there, twice and no regrets. Also, easy to find location and shaded parking. Highly recommend.

The people here were wonderful! In just a couple of hours, they were able to get some records from a vet who was dragging her heels on releasing them and they had me set up one business day later for my dog's vaccination. That's all I needed to have done, so my experience so far has been somewhat limited. But they were thoroughly professional and very gentle with my little sweetheart. Both the clerical side and the veterinary side were great.

Great experience - my dog tore her ACL and needed surgery, so she ended up having a MMP done here. Her recovery has been quick for the that was procedure done, and the staff has helped me with any questions I had. Dr. Kraft was very thorough, and takes the time to explain everything. The rest of the team at Animal Works is amazing too! Transparent pricing as well - the price they told me at consultation is exactly the price I ended up paying. I’d recommend anyone looking for care for their pet!

Our 6-month old kitten was diagnosed with luxating patella in both knees. We called many vets in and around Denver for pricing and availability. Several places never answered or returned messages, many wouldn’t quote even ballpark prices, and the few that did were wildly expensive. Then we called Animal Works in Ft Collins. Their phone staff was top notch, very communicative, thorough, and helpful. All of their pricing is very transparent and on their website. And their costs beat every animal hospital we called. So we set an appointment for the first knee surgery. Aside from the drive to and from Ft Collins everything went great. The pre-surgical consult with the surgical doctor was thorough and he took a time to explain and answer any questions. Most other hospitals kept a wall between patients and surgeons, so I really appreciated this. A few hours later our cat was out of surgery and ready to go home. The cost came in at the estimate. She is healing very well. We would immediately reach out to Animal Works as a first resort for any pet surgical needs. 100% recommend, amazing option and couldn’t be more grateful for them.
