How to Save Money at VCA Central Park Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I wish there was a negative rating to give. Even if they are the closest veterinarians to your house, I would highly recommend finding another vet for your pet, especially if you consider them family. I was 10 minutes late for my appointment, but still made it. I had a crying newborn with me… and instead of helping, the folks there told me I had to reschedule because they had a staff meeting. I requested them to take Luna, especially since I had already given her gabapentin and sileo, but they said no. Now I know why she dreaded coming here in the past. They are mean. I’ve never seen anyone there greet the fur babies… Nobody there is happy or excited to see the pets that come in. In fact, someone that worked the front desk had told me about another vet that she herself liked more. Getting a recommendation from a staff member to take my dog elsewhere… what else can I say. They themselves have a 10 minutes late policy that they did not abide by today. Definitely sending a complaint to the state veterinary licensing board as a first step…

I drive all the way across town to see these vets because of how well they handle my anxious dog. It’s always stressful for her, but the staff are so kind and patient with my fearful girl- giving her space and going slow if they can, even when it’s clear they’re busy. The vets and techs have all been slow and gentle with her, so much so that she started to doze off at Dr Hafer’s feet one day while we talked! She panics in any public space and this has been *the only time* she has ever been so relaxed in public, especially at the vet. We had never met Dr. Hafer until that appointment, so this speaks volumes to the vet’s demeanor and approach I think. Dr. Hafer was so patient and informative, really taking the time to explain Amaya’s issues in detail and answer all my questions. The other vets have been great as well- I think we’ve met with or talked to every vet at the practice by now and they’ve all provided the same level of care. The team always works with me to ensure my pup gets the best treatment, and are honest when certain tests aren’t necessary or there’s a cheaper one they can do instead. Sometimes they even let me know where I can find certain medications cheaper than with them. I won’t forget the compassion one of the receptionists showed me one day when I started crying from the emotional and financial stress of such frequent vet visits. Even though it’s a 30-45 minute drive now, I’ll continue taking my dog here because of this kind, caring team of people 💛

I have been taking my dogs to this place for the last 6 years. I don’t know what happened but now they never have availability to see them. They are scheduling 3 months out! I mean if your dog has an issue that is not an emergency but it needs addressing you either take them to URGENT CARE or wait until it becomes an emergency to take them to urgent care. What is the point of having them as their regular vet. Obviously I won’t come to this place anymore. I need a vet that is reliable and is able to give me the time I need not 3 months after when it is already too late.

The staff at thus VCA are great! Always friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and very kind to my dog. He doesn't like the vets so the staff there go out of their way to make him more comfortable. I'm only giving 4 stars because they are changing their hours to not be open on the weekends anymore. That makes it quite difficult to make appointments for me and may affect my ability to come to their office.
