How to Save Money at Downtown Animal Care Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I took my 5 month old puppy in to be spayed and was very impressed. The staff was friendly and explained everything. I just wish it wasn't so far from my house! Even though it takes me about an hour to get there, I will have to consider this place when my dog's need their annual check ups and dentals done. I highly recommend!

Unfortunately this place does not discharge you with results of testing done on your pets and apparently there was a discrepancy between the treatment plan for my first and second visit which may have led to more serious complications with my cat. Ultimately you are seen quickly here and the water station they set up has pet bowls which is sweet, so that’s good. I do want to say most of the receptionists, doctors, and techs are very kind before getting into the next part… One of the receptionists here really needs to be replaced and go back to her old little comcast job. It’s always when she’s working too that the phone is never answered. If you can’t handle people being scared over the phone about their pet and threaten to hang up because someone is shoving words through tears, YOU OBVIOUSLY can’t handle what this job requires. I would know. I’ve had it. You’re the only one “yelling.” And you yell at people with sick pets they love and care for. Fire her. Nearly all your less-than-perfect reviews mention her. She’s a problem.

I’ve always had such good experiences here with all three of my animals. My dog as well as my two cats. Both cats and dog have been fixed here and all three has amazing experiences. The nurses and staff as well as the doctors are always super caring and attentive with my animals and I can tell they genuinely care about their well beings. We’ve had bad experiences with the vet next door to them, and we went there once and never came back. Downtown animal care center will be the vet we go to for the remainder of my foreseeable future 💜

I think this is probably the best veterinary experience I ever had in my life. We had an urgent situation with our Samoyed and they jumped to it - did not charge us a fortune, and got him into surgery right away.. God bless Dr Alex and the team ! Truly a blessing to have found this place.

I have had a multitude of problems here since transferring for care of my elder canine. A front of house staff member is very rude. Actually profane. Avoid her. She ultimately led to this one star rating. Aggressive, unkind and a bad representative. The other staff have seemed mostly pleasant and kind. The doctors in our examinations were both very positive with my pet who is needing end of life care. The first Vet we met with quit within weeks of our first appointment though. My issues were outside of exam rooms. Problems for the customer were created by not properly doing their paperwork. Twice. Leaving off important numbers and using incorrect contact details on the paperwork causing me to need to return at my time and inconvenience to the vet after BOTH of my appointments here. The customer service from the receptionist was deplorable. As a paid customer who did nothing wrong, except apparently attempt to spend hundreds on the care of an old dog, this woman accused her customer of being difficult profanely in front of other customers. She had no problem creating drama in the middle of the clinic she represents. Expect to be disrespected. I will not be calling back this clinic as asked. I have read through the reviews and your clinic seems to be experiencing a downturn in service where I am not alone in having a BAD experience at this clinic. My experience with your employee was horrific. I would never knowingly bring my best friend to a place where she could influence the services she needs. I don’t believe the offer is genuine anyway. I HAVE called and left messages. Find a different clinic folks.
