How to Save Money at 5280 Veterinary Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I feel so fortunate to have the 5280 Veterinary Care team on my side. They genuinely care about my pets, and it's clear in absolutely every interaction. I wish it wasn't so rare to find a veterinary practice fitting this description -- but well, in 40 years of pets, working with 5280 is the first time I've ever felt genuinely confident in the quality of care, guidance, advice, and follow-up I've received for any pet. From the front desk folks to the lead vets to the assistants, they ALL care. That said, I want to give a big shout-out to Dr. Lesley Leach in particular. I get tears in my eyes (in the good way!) when I think of the care she has provided my 17-year-old cat Franny over the past week -- and well, the past several years, since I started taking Franny to 5280. Whatever the situation, Dr. Leach is thoughtful, thorough, caring, and utterly down-to-earth. She makes sure we understand our options and have all the information we need to make the best decisions for our pets. She's profoundly respectful -- I know she'd never judge us, talk down to us, or second-guess our decisions. (Unfortunately, vets we've seen in the past have often seemed disrespectful in this way.) But beyond being a highly competent vet who knows her stuff, Dr. Leach operates with empathy, compassion, and genuine care. If you're looking for a vet you can trust in the Denver metro, look no further.

I’m glad I finally found a place I can trust with my dog. He had to have a bump removed and I’m so grateful to all the staff for taking good care of him. I won’t take him anywhere else ever again. Everyone there was nice and helpful the place was clean and Dr Douglas was amazing to me and my baby! Thank you all so much! Herbie thanks you too!

We have been bringing out cat here for 3 years and we are so happy with 5280. Everyone who works there clearly loves animals and they have taken top-notch care of our senior cat. They are also very clear with pricing and do not pressure you to do anything that you cannot afford or are not comfortable with. Highly recommend!

The 5280 VC team was great. It was our first time visiting and Lolly was very happy with the outcome.

I took my kitten here for just a general check-up and rabies shot, since it’s the closest veterinary office to me. I had just gotten him from the shelter a few months ago, and this is the first pet I have owned by myself. The 5280 vet team made the appointment very easy, and everyone was super friendly to both me and my kitten! The appointment itself was on time and very fast. I remember growing up with pets and having to wait in the exam room for quite a while every time. Here, I waited maybe 3 minutes. So happy to have this place close by and delighted to make 5280 my pet’s main care provider!
