How to Save Money at VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Erin answered the phone to my cries and got me in immediately and had serious compassion in her voice! Andrea greeted us with love and concern escorting us directly to a private room. Within literally seconds, Dr Sanborn and Pablo came in with extreme kindness and levity. Kleenex was grabbed immediately by Pablo and Dr Lisa Sanborn made me laugh and calmed me. They do not overcharge, do not do unnecessary tests and immediately came up with a plan for my elderly terrier with unexplained pain. I am in debt to these four people as their true empathy and warm hearts gave me hope that this would not be the day I say goodbye! Go here and if I could give a 100 star review I would! God bless these amazing humans! Oh, and when I left Andrea and Erin were sweet, fun and shared stories about their amazing pups. I am in awe of this amazing crew!

I sought out VCA to neuter my dog hoping for a quicker procedure than what his usual vet can accommodate (3 months out), VCA charges $1400 for the neutering procedure which seems astronomical. BUT, staff was super friendly. Will most likely wait another month for the usual vet as $1400 is crazy.

If I could leave zero stars I would! Stay away from Vca Douglas County Animal Hospital! 531 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, CO They intentionally let our English bulldog die. On Sunday June 4th our dog fell and we immediately called our vet Lisa Sanborn and all we got was a recording telling us to go to a particular hospital, we couldn't even leave a message. We rushed our English bulldog into the vet hospital because she was very ill. The Vet hospital said we had to go thru our primary care to have certain tests done. When we tried to contact the vet the following morning Monday June 5th all they could say is that Lisa Sanborn would be busy with surgery and would not be able to see us until the following Monday. We begged for help over the phone. We went to another vet hospital without much assistance. After trying to get our dog in we finally found a vet where we had to drive over 50 miles to see, but it was too late, the vet said if we had gotten our dog in sooner there might have been a chance and she died Friday night June 9th right there at that vet hospital, the only appointment we had with our current vet was Monday June 12. To add insult to injury Dr. Lisa Sanborn's administrator sent a very nasty letter to my wife basically calling her a Karen and said we were not ever welcome there because of our insistence that our dog needed to be seen. We had gone there for many years with multiple pets. That is the last place anyone should EVER send any animal to unless you want them dead! They could careless how animals are treated and I will NEVER forgive them for how they treated us!

Took in my pet Kona for a free check up after adopting him. The vet said he had a bad heart murmur (grade 4-5) they recommend us to a cardiologist which we then took him to. We were charged $700 dollars for a check up to say he had a very minor heart murmur but not a grade 4-5 maybe a 1-2. The vet asked us to we went to and I told them the VCA vet in castle rock. She was very surprised to hear it was one of their one vets saying his heart murmur was so bad when it wasn’t. After that appointment we took him to a vca vet in centennial because the castle rock location wouldn’t pick up. We decided to get his shots done in centennial which we couldn’t get at castle rock due to his “heart murmur”. The centennial vet charged us for a check up even though castle rock had just done it less than 2 weeks ago. All we came for was shots and had to pay for a full check up as well. All this for a shot for my dog. I spent almost $1,000 dollars on a mistake made by the vca vet. As a new and first time customer I would not recommend this place to anyone. I would love a call from a manager of some sort as well. This was a costly mistake!

I just moved to Castle Rock. I used VCA in Thornton so I stuck with what I new. Glad I did they got me in the same day. Everyone in the office was amazing. Usually you get ignored and shoved in a room. They all stopped and loved on my dog and I could tell they all really loved their jobs and animals. I was super impressed. Vets are expensive and when I checked out they gave me an unexpected discount. They understood how expensive it is to get treatment for your furr babies. I was taken aback and it really made me feel good about going to VCA in Castle Rock. I would highly recommend them. Everyone there is amazing.
