How to Save Money at Five Parks Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We just moved here from Louisiana and I searched for a while for the best vet for our fur babies, when I came across Five Parks I knew it was the one, and exactly what we were looking for. We had our 1st visit today for a yearly for one of our babies and it was a wonderful experience! The staff was so nice, they explained everything in detail to us and kept us informed of everything going on during our whole visit. They took great care of my boy. He is very nervous and can get protective over me and growl sometimes, they handled it really well and he was the best behaved he's ever been for a vet appointment thanks to their amazing care and doing exactly what he needed. We have definitely found our vet and love Five Parks already!

I can't thank Five Parks Animal Hospital enough for saving my cat's life!!! If I could give them 100 stars I would! She was accidently in our running dryer for 12 minutes. I rushed her immediately to Five Parks, as we have been going there for many years. Dr. Ellen Camp, and the entire staff where all hands on deck the minute I brought her in. Thankfully there were no broken bones, and all of her organs were okay. We were able to take her home that evening, but needed to monitor her breathing all night. Around 10:30 p.m., we received a call from co-owner Susan Wells who called to check on Mismatch and answer questions, amazing! I am soooo grateful and happy to report that today, 3 weeks later, she is FINE! It is a miracle that would have never Happened without such immediate and great care. Thank You Five Parks Animal Hospital!!!!

Five Parks is by far the most outstanding Animal Hospital/Clinic I have used in my life time. The staff including Dr. Camp, Dr. Mader, Susan and all the team are outstanding and have your pet's best interest first. They are extremely responsive, caring and go out of their way to ensure the best possible care.

We just moved to the area with our 2 dogs not too long ago so we needed a new vet, and after a lot of poking around on the internet, we landed on Five Parks Animal Hospital because of all the 5 star reviews. I've gotta jump on the bandwagon here because they did not disappoint! I called to schedule appointments and was greeted by Susan, one of the owners of the practice. It means a lot to me that one of the owners answered the phone because it shows involvement and care! We were seen for a double appointment for our 2 dogs by vet tech Katie and Dr. Ellen Camps. Both women were so attentive, caring, and engaged the whole time. They were genuinely interested in getting to know our dogs, and listened attentively to their history and all concerns and questions we had. They reserve an hour per appointment and between our 2 boys we were there for almost the entire 2 hours, which really allowed both of our dogs to settle into the experience and get comfortable. One of our dogs had a small cyst I'd been worried about, and because of the allotted extra time, Dr. Camp was able to take care of the bump then and there, instead of having to schedule a secondary appointment to remove it. They made sure to ask us about what treats we were comfortable giving them, helped us trim our border collie's nails (he's a little timid and hates instruments coming towards him), and even gave us pointers on how to do it at home in a way that makes him much more comfortable. All suggestions and feedback they gave us were without judgement, and we left feeling really confident that our pets were getting medical attention from a truly caring group of people. I could go on, but I'll end by saying that I also thought we would have spent a few hundred dollars more than we did based on everything they did for us that day! Our previous vets would have charged much more for all the services and time these folks provided us, and we were pleased to know that their services were actually affordable! We love Five Parks Animal Hospital, and feel at ease knowing that our boys are loved by them.
