How to Save Money at East Hill Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Been coming here for years, never have had a bad interaction with any of the staff. Doctors and assistants have always been great. We unfortunately had to put our old pup down a few weeks ago; they were very helpful in his final treatment and very sympathetic, and made the whole process a bit better. 😢 Even when we had to put our old cat Bo down a few years ago, same respect. Thank you.

Had an appointment on 12/29 and * was really impressed with the care we received. Not only did we get an encouraging and treatable plan for her main medical issue, we also got her treated for an unknown serious health threat. We have follow-up appts. for her medical condition and I feel confident Lily is finally getting the professional and compassionate care she deserves.

My dogs have been coming here for years without any problems. My dog was recently attacked by a bear and required extensive emergency surgery in Santa Rosa. I called to schedule follow up care at my normal vet. Got an appointment on Friday to remove drains, picked up probiotics on Wednesday and spoke with the receptionist about my concerns having the drains removed because there was still a great amount of fluid coming out. She said the doctor would speak to me first before removing them. We showed up early for our appointment, they took my dog straight to the back instead of putting us in an exam room. Maybe 15 minutes later the same receptionist came out and told me the doctor was recommending different treatment. I asked what that meant and what it would cost, she said the doctor would work up a quote and come discuss it with me in a few minutes. I ended up waiting over two hours. After two hours, while the doctor was talking to another patient and saw me sitting in waiting, she asked if I had been helped. I replied with, yes my dog is in the back and I’ve been waiting 2 hours to talk with the doctor. That made her angry because she went from a cheery demeanor, to completely rude and hostile. After the other patient left, another 20 minutes later, she came out with an estimate and a chip on her shoulder, speaking to me like I was a burden to her. I said that her attitude and tone were unacceptable and she said I was stressing her out saying I had been waiting while she’s dealing with “real emergencies”. The owner of the dog that cut in front of me said it wasn’t an emergency and she could have waited. We were talking in the waiting room. On the estimate I was being charged an emergency visit fee, even though I had an appointment. They had also already removed drains, which I had said multiple times I didn’t want done until I spoke with the vet about my concerns. When I stated I didn’t trust her and her attitude to take care of my dog when they did a procedure without consent and that I wanted my dog back immediately, she yelled at me, so you’re refusing treatment??? Yes! She then went and swung open the door to the back and yelled, get the dog out!! Never have I ever experienced anything like this before I will never return once I receive my dogs medical records, which I tried to get before I left but one receptionist said she couldn’t print them from the front printer. Dr. Chana is horrible and I will continue to inform people of my experience with her. I’ve heard from many other people of similar experiences as well. Her responses to bad reviews also show the type of person she is! She never takes responsibility for her attitude, blames it on every other person. I was doing right by my dog asking questions about her care first and she ignored me!
