How to Save Money at Slaton Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I cannot recommend Dr. Slaton and his staff enough. Not only is Dr. Slaton a master at his job - but he along with his entire team are the kindest, honest, most professional group of people i have encountered in the world of medicine maybe ever. Our pup has had a rough few months, and we still have him with us today because of Slaton Veterinary Hospital. I always say I’m going to leave reviews, and flake - but i absolutely had to jump on and let anyone know who is reading this and in search of the right Doctor, and struggling to find someone whom is actually in it for the right reasons - that you should look no further…. I promise you and your pet will be in the best hands in the state of CA with Dr Slaton and his team!

We’ve been to Slaton a few times this year for different reasons. Started with the new client wellness exam and so glad we did. Since then we’ve done the non-anesthetic teeth cleaning, nail trims, and most recently visited due to an unexpected illness. Each time we were able to get an appointment quickly, were received by friendly staff, and were pleased with the services. Dr Slaton is straightforward and kind with the animals. He and the staff do not try to up-sell any services or products. Highly recommend. So happy to have finally found a vet we feel comfortable with.

Hello Everyone, I am so happy to have found Slaton Veterinary Hospital for our dog Axel. He was suffering from a type of skin allergy. I have gone to two veterinary places and I did not receive the correct help. Dr. Slaton was very thorough, he explained all the treatments and everything he did for our dog Axel was perfect. Axel is now 100 percent better and most importantly a happy dog! I am so happy that we took Axel to Dr. Slaton and Dr. Slaton’s team is amazing! They are so helpful and nice. I couldn’t recommend any better place than this one!

All I can say is WOW! Nothing but great things to say about this vet clinic. This was my first visit here after my dog Kilo suffered a bite from another dog. The care he got was amazing. I’ve had nothing but horrible experiences with other local clinics. I currently drive over an hour for a good vet. When I called my current clinic to tell them about the situation that just had happened they actually recommended me to Dr.Slaton since they know I’m local to him, and after this great experience I will be making Slaton Veterinary Hospital my primary for my dog and cat. I highly recommend. Good care and very honest people. Dr.Slaton and his staff are awesome!

We started seeing Dr. Slaton when he was in Sherman Oaks two years ago. Our dog had contracted the flu, was unable to eat, and had lost tons of weight. Several places refused to see him and others could not get him better. Dr. Slaton was the only one who was willing to take him in and knew what to do. I am glad to say that our dog is healthy and happy today. We drive 30 miles each way to see Dr. Slaton, but it is well worth it. He is kind, loves what he does, and is very knowledgeable. We are extremely grateful for Dr. Slaton.
