How to Save Money at Laurel Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Being a very popular and sometimes busy office the staff here has still always been friendly and helpful anytime I’ve called or gone in. The vet techs are also really great about getting to know your animal upon check in, and then making sure you know how to give them their medicine upon check out if needed. The doctors here are awesome too, they have a genuine passion for animal care which makes me feel good taking my kittens here. Pricing is also fair in my opinion, at the end of the day I don’t believe veterinary offices take joy in charging people a hefty bill, they just want your fur baby to receive the best care. I think Laurel Pet Hospital charges fair prices for care and also didn’t push me to do additional testing unless they thought it was really necessary which I appreciated. Veterinarians and vet techs are amazing people, it’s not an easy job, appreciate all that you do.

I can almost always get into see a doctor or a tech within 24 to 48 hours in a non-emergency situation. The front desk staff are always friendly and the medical and tech folks are always thorough and caring. I have been bringing my dogs here for 20+ years.

Laurel Pet Hospital is exceptional! Dr. Rettinger is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and kind. The administrative staff is super efficient, organized, and accommodating. All the vet techs are friendly and sweet, both with me and my cat. It's hard to leave him for treatment, but I always feel reassured knowing that he's with people who go above and beyond to make sure he's comfortable and feeling safe. My cat had a dental cleaning and extraction today, and Justin, one of the techs, took the time to answer all my questions about aftercare and was so thorough. My cat means the WORLD to me and I wouldn't take him anywhere else. Laurel is the best!

Honestly I did not have a great experience here. I took my dog here to get checked/treated for possible fleas and a general checkup. However, they recommended he get dental cleaning and would require blood work before scheduling this. I was fine with it and asked for a quote for financial transparency since I’m not familiar with vet costs as this is my first dog. The vet said he would get a quote and after a little while the assistant came back and said I was good to go. I mentioned the vet was getting a quote for blood work for the cleaning and I was sent on my way anyways. Very strange. Lastly, at checkout as I was paying, the girl at the front desk said they were checking to make sure my dog had a specific vaccination… why was this being checked as I’m already walking out the door? I was left feeling uncertain that my dog had been properly taken care of. The icing on the cake is that the whole staff kept calling my dog a girl when it’s a boy, even after the checkup.

I'm so happy with my experience at Laurel Pet Hospital. Dr. Mehta is a wonderful person; she not only took the time to answer questions about my new girl Evelyn, she also helped me plan out how to get veterinary care for a scared kitty I'm about to adopt. Thank you to Dr. Mehta and all of the staff I interacted with! I feel very good about the care Evelyn and I have received so far.
