How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Walnut

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

What a great vet, I couldn't recommend them more. Doctor and her staff clearly do love the animals here and make sure us owners feel heard in our concerns. Our old girl Cheese lived to be 18 years old and she saw this doctor for the last few years of her life. We always got attentive service and compassionate care up until her very last visit. The whole family felt very supported by Doctor and her staff when it was time to say goodbye.

Very caring staff. I brought my dog and cat her a few times. I recently called to make an appointment because my dog got really sick suddenly. I ended up taking my dog to the hospital since her health declined suddenly and I couldn't wait for the appointment. One of the staff members called to remind me of the appointment which I sadly had to tell her my dog ended up dying. The staff member showed great empathy and gave her condolences. A couple days later I received a card from Walnut with signatures and a little message from each employee. That gesture was amazing and warmed my heart. Bring your animals here they will take care of them.

We took our 4 year old German shepherd in because she has separation anxiety and we've been working with her for almost 2 years but nothing has helped. This was our first visit here. The office is very clean and pleasant. The examination rooms have high tech exam tables that move up and down and weigh your pet as well. All the staff is very nice and caring. Dr.LeClair was professional and personable. Our dog was comfortable and calm, which is unusual for her at a vets office. After her examination we talked about different ways to help our dog and came up with some solutions. All and all we were very happy with the excellent service and care we received at Animal Hospital of Walnut. We will be bringing our dog back for all her health care needs and issues in the future.

Brought my small dog, Alice in on what I felt was an same day emergency appointment (on a Saturday.) From the initial phone call where the staff asked appropriate questions to figure out the issue to the actual appointment, I would highly recommend Animal Hospital of Walnut to anyone looking for a solid vet. Pricing was decent in my opinion, and I really appreciated that the vet tech and vet worked together to see if they could adjust the lab work to be more affordable. The vet tech, Sam, was an absolute sweetheart and handled my anxious girl like a dream. There was a small miscommunication when it came to medication, but when I called back a day or two later they were more than willing to talk to me about what was going on with Alice and ensure that I was able to pickup the needed medication asap. Alice still has some healing to do, but I really appreciated how lovely the staff was.

My two kittens got neutered and spayed at this place last week. My female kitten also has a little injury that needed some stitches. In total I spent two thousand dollars for the services. After the surgery I checked with the other places and then also ask my friends and they told me I've been overcharged a lot, the price out there maybe just half of what they charged. When I drop them at the clinic I mentioned to the vet, please let the doctor either shave or cut shorter her hair, make sure there's no other injuries on her body that we couldn't see, and then they are adding a hundred fifty dollars in grooming charges, I say I do not want to do the grooming in the hospital, the main reason is just to make sure there are no other injuries on her body. Of course when I pick her up and then there's only shaving’s little part on her tummy and then not nowhere else. I also found out later that my female cat after the surgery was supposed to stay overnight to make sure she's okay, but I was notified two hours after both kittens were done with the surgery to pick them up, and I don’t even have an option to let her stay. also the doctor is really unprofessional , I paid for two hundred sixty dollars just for doctor visits, When he try to search something on his laptop, i saw inappropriate images on his work laptop. so this is the worst experience in my life ever I would not recommend anybody go to this place .
