How to Save Money at Mission Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I LOVE this place and so does my dog. I have never waited more than 10 minutes and each vet has been really thorough and welcoming. After our dog rescued us in 2020 we have searched for the right veterinary office. We went to two others and were so disappointed. The others were booking appointments months out and once you arrived the wait was ridiculous. I really cannot say enough good things about Mission. Max and us have found our forever vet!

Dr Bennett’s professional care & knowledge makes me think he is a dog whisperer. For what did he do to my 14+ year old Bichon Frise today? Charlie’s a rescue so his age is a guess (@14+y/o & Charlie has had an ear infection on & off forever.) Today, as usual, the caring staff greeted us & within minutes Charlie’s appointment began. I’d been up most of last night as Charlie kept crying out in pain. So when he took my favorite pillow, I just let him be. This afternoon exhausted & dragging I brought my dog in to be seen. After his bloody ear was cleaned, Dr Bennett sat down at eye level to me & explained exactly where Charlie stood which I know is actually close to the final stages of his life. I then brought Charlie home & went to the grocery store. Upon returning home Charlie barked as he jumped up & down acting like he was a puppy again. So I’ll say again, though my statement is a bit ‘tongue in cheek’, what did Dr Bennett do to Charlie? I know it won’t last long but Dr Bennett truly cares for each & every one of our pets. And as other reviews below state, he carefully takes the time to help us understand & could he also be giving our pets a word of encouragement & love. He is a dog whisperer to me. And I thank my daughter for highly recommending his hospital 6+ months ago.

Finding the right vet is really hard, especially as they've become very busy in the area over the last few years. Mission Animal Hospital, specifically Dr. Bennett, have come highly recommended by multiple sources. I've brought my two year old blue heeler for a few things now, and I always have a great experience. I recently got another blue heeler and brought her in as well. I really appreciate the time Dr. Bennett spends with the dogs, and discussing the issue they're in for, and answering any and all questions. He really takes the time with each patient, and I really like that. I feel like I really can go do the doctor with any concern I have about Meeko or Lilo and he will be willing to offer any help he can. On top of the great service from Dr. Bennett and all the staff at the clinic, their prices are incredibly reasonable. Prescriptions are competivie with any pet pharmacy online, and his fees are more than reasonable. I'd absolutely recommend Mission Animal Hospital and Dr. Bennett to anyone looking for a good, trustworthy vet in Ventura.

I saw Dr Chicotka and was not pleased. She made the exam as quick as possible, then disappeared, did not take time to explain medications or options, and she did not address my concerns. I left feeling frustrated and unheard. I had the complete opposite experience with Dr Bennett. Dr Bennett TOOK SO MUCH TIME with me and made sure I was heard and all of my concerns were addressed. I won’t see Dr Chicotka again. Dr Bennett gets 5/5 stars.

My pet Betty Rose, Boxer has been Dr Bennett's patient. But l moved 75 Miles away and still go there. I had to visit partner last time and equally as wonderful. They are thorough, loving to animals, non judgemental and very reasonable on fees. Give them 5 star all the way around!
