How to Save Money at MarQueen Pet Emergency & Specialty

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The facility is new, clean, big and the staff is friendly and skilled. We were recommended to see the cardiologist for our pup, Dylan's, heart. It was a god-send as it saved us a trip to the usual specialists in Tustin. While we had to wait, about 15 minutes, after our appointment time, we were out of there in 1.5 hours total which included the initial consultation with a tech, an EKG, and consultation with the doctor. The staff was friendly and prices were reasonable. I got pretty busy as it's also an ER but there's plenty of space for patients and their persons. There are lots of rooms for patients and they have photos of celebrities with their dogs throughout the office. It makes for a welcoming atmosphere. Great addition to the IE! My only recommendation would be to add a vending machine. Vet visits can take a long time, especially ER visits, and there's nothing close by to grab a bite or snack if needed. However, I can see the reasons for not having one. Overall, we loved the facility!

We live up in Running Springs, and last Saturday, my cat's itchiness was reaching such a fevered pitch that he was giving himself open wounds! My vet was not open but their message said to see MarQueen for emergencies, so I ended up doing that last Saturday afternoon. I found the staff to be SUPER NICE, and the facility clean and beautiful. I was seen relatively quickly by a very nice veterinarian, but she barely looked at my cat before saying he needed a steroid shot, an antibiotic shot, flea medication, he needed to be sedated and shaved and cleaned, all to the tune of $1000-$1500. Of course I'm concerned about my cat and initially said yes, but not much longer after that, intervened and just asked for the shots. The staff did not make me feel bad about this decision at all, and made sure I knew they were there anytime for any questions, but to please make sure he gets a follow-up from our regular vet. So, the thing is, the vet didn't take into account the dry mountain environment we are in, and the fact that we don't have fleas up here. That would've been needless expense. I took my cat to a vet in Big Bear today, so he knew it could be environmental (dryness) or food. He said the steroid shot MarQueen gave him was very short lasting, so he gave him a longer lasting steroid shot, and we also got food for cats with allergies. He also didn't think he needed to be shaved, so thank God I spared my cat all of that. That being said, I did feel like this staff was awesome... and probably the vet does better in other situations, but what was initially recommended was probably overkill, so ask all the questions and don't be afraid to get second opinions. I think in other situations this would be a great vet to visit.

I found a feral 4 week of kitten that was so sick. I took her to the MarQueen emergency and they were so kind and professional. I got antibiotics and eye medicine. After about a week, my miracle kitty was better. She was running around my house like she was the Queen. Needless to say I fell in love with Ms miracle and now she’s part of our family now. Thank you 😊

This is the best emergency vet place I’ve been too. They are so kind and got me and my baby in so quick. Other places were going to make me wait weeks to see an internal medicine doctor but they heard my concerns and took great care of my girl. All the vets were super nice and explained everything and all the techs and receptionist were great. Everyone is super helpful and they do there best there to make sure your pet is cared for the best possible way and they keep you updated on anything that is going on and how your pet is doing. I would definitely recommend

The attention ( from everyone) they paid to making our dog Palmer as comfortable as he could be was amazing! The surgeon who did his procedure explained things so well and gave us peace of mind. I would recommend 10 times out of 10!
