How to Save Money at Advanced Veterinary Medical Imaging

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My regular vet diagnosed my 12-year-old cat with hyperthyroidism and referred me here for radioactive iodine treatment after 30 days of giving him a daily oral medication. My cat, Ben, was admitted on a Sunday after an exam and consultation with Dr. Broome, followed by a test that confirmed two small tumors on his thyroid. He was placed in isolation with a video camera, allowing me to remotely check in on him from 8am to 8pm during the whole time he was there. The procedure was done on Monday, and I was able to bring him home on Thursday afternoon with detailed after-care instructions because he's still radioactive for 12 days. Dr. Broome and his entire staff were professional, knowledgeable, thorough, cordial, compassionate, and exhibited warm and tender feelings toward Ben. Through every phase, Dr. Broome or his staff answered all my questions and followed up by phone or by email. They operate like a well-oiled machine, and should my older 15-year-old cat develop hyperthyroidism, I fully intend to bring her here for treatment. I am fortunate that so far, I have been able to afford my pets medical treatments. If a time comes that I can't, I will start a Go Fund Me account and/or apply for funding from any number of charitable organizations that help pay people's vet bills. I strongly recommend AVMI and Dr. Broome. Do this for your cat(s) if needed.

We had scheduled a bone scan of my dog for 1/9/23 at 9:15am which was confirmed and paid $200 deposits however my dog had to have an emergency surgery on her leg on 1/8/23 by the same referring doctor who called and explained why my dog can’t have the scan tomorrow but they still charged me $200 for cancellation. I didn’t cancel , the referring doctor because of stich’s canceled the scan., additionally we may need the scan after her recovery but I will never go back or recommend this place. How can they want a dog who had surgery today to be scanned tomorrow again surgeon’s recommendation. This is unfair and I will be contacting other governing agencies. I like to know how I can keep this appointment because I would by doctors and dog who had surgery can’t. Anyway. I hope this is a lesson. I will never let them care for my dog because they don’t care about anything except money.

The staff was very courteous and professional. Dr. Broome was very nice, and took his time both before and after the procedure to explain everything to us very well and kindly. They were all very sweet with us and our kitty.

This place is the best!! My first priority was an experienced vet, and you will find no one with more experience than Dr. Broome. He answered all my questions at the consult. He was thorough in his explanation of what to expect and after care. He spent extra time with me because I was concerned about my kitty's other health problems. He was so kind and so patient. I left there feeling so reassured and knowing my little guy was in the best hands. You get a link for your own kitty cam. It was very comforting being able to see my boy was not in the distress I imagined. They send you a daily flow sheet so you can see how they're doing over the last 24 hours, if medications have been administered, etc., etc., so you're always informed. It is a little more expensive, but worth every penny and then some!!!!!

Bait and switch on attitudes and price. Extremely rough with my cat and Liars. Audio, and story to come. With videos using Geiger counter... my cat's at 8,000 -10,000 cpm day 6 so beware! Maybe he was good once upon at time but not now. Nothing special about this vet, so save yourself the money. Full story to come.
