How to Save Money at Taylor Veterinary Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was our first time at Taylor Veterinary Hospital. Our dog Echo got very sick vomiting blood and bloody diarrhea. Unfortunately, this fell on Labor Day Weekend and we had to bring him in late into the evening/morning. We called ahead and were told we wouldn't be seen till around 4am but to come now since it's first come first serve. We arrived and the front staff took our info and let us know that the veterinarian was in surgery so we waited. Once we were called into a room, Echo was taken into the back for an evaluation. Dr Brooks explained what may be going on with Echo regarding his symptoms and what test and potential treatments that will be needed. After talking with the Doctor a vet tech came into discuss different tier levels of treatments option we could take for Echo. We opted for the more aggressive treatment plan to hospitalize Echo, since I've had prior experience with my other dog having gastroenteritis and needing hospitalization. Conservative home treatment of severe vomiting and diarrhea doesn't always work and they'll likely have to come back and be hospitalized anyways, which will cost more in the long run. The pricing/quote was very accurate being upfront and transparent. Throughout Echo's hospital stay the Veterinarians on staff would call within the timeframes we were given. When we would call for updates the vet techs would inform us on his condition. We were informed throughout his stay and felt good about him being at Taylor Veterinary Hospital. This was a scary ordeal for us but the staff, doctors, and techs made us feel at ease. Everyone was so friendly that it helped make the situation feel less stressful. Front staff was excellent and went the extra mile in making sure we had our test/x-ray records from Echo's stay. We had an excellent experience here and will definitely be back if the need arises. Echo is happy to be back home recovering ‍

Was traveling from WASHINGTON and my Doberman got extremely sick and they were able to get us in. We waited about 5 hours, I did not mind the wait only that we were charged as an emergency , but i felt it wasn’t seen as emergency. More of a same day appointment. I will say a Dr. Did come out and ask if we had been seen and once we told her no, she had us go in immediately. (After 5 hours of waiting). Either way I’m extremely thankful 🥰

Not sure what is happening there, but clearly it is not good. I tried to bring my dog in for a visit last week - when I arrived I was asked to fill out new paperwork, which seemed odd. The person at the desk told me they are only seeing emergency patients and no longer making appointments for regular clients. The website is unchanged, and they confirmed that they had not notified current patients of this change, which seems extremely unprofessional. Did they change ownership? Was there some sort of mandatory shut-down? Did the vets walk out? Are they trying to make more money by charging $105 + $55 for “day of” visits? Inquiring minds…will apparently have to find a new vet. PS I filled and picked up a prescription last week, and just got a message that it’s available for pick up a second time. 🙄

Was away for the weekend last month and came home to a swollen neck and face on my dog. Every vet in Stockton refused to see him. Too busy for an animal in need. Called Taylor and was told was about a 4 hour wait but they certainly can take him in. Drove more than 30 minutes to Taylor and when I got there they told me good news. Only approximately an hour wait now. Vet took him back assessed his situation and treated with appropriate treatment. All while keeping me informed of his condition the whole way. He had an abscess and they inserted a drain and gave him medication to help with infection. They first had to get his diabetes in check since unaware he wasn’t eating but still getting insulin. He is now back to himself. Thanks for taking care of Zack.

Kind vets. Found a stay kitten who started having a seizure… I called Taylor vet and drove all way from Merced to be helped right away by staff. They showed kindness to the kitten and us. Staff was gentle and caring. That’s all we wanted for the kitten. Thank you.
