How to Save Money at VCA Pet Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This medical center is hands down is one of the best vets in town. They helped us say goodbye to our boy in the most peaceful way and made us feel like we were surrounded by family. Thank you for being such compassionate humans.

Update! Today I had to put my beloved sweet boy down. His pain, had grown immense and his extremities started to betray him. I’m updating everybody because I just want you guys all to know that Dr. Corso and her office manager was fully willing to let me spend all the money that I had knowing that my dogs, life and quality of life was not gonna get any better. Luckily, I had the wherewithal to consult another vet who suggested that we not put our sweet boy through such a traumatic experience, knowing that he was at the end of his life cycle. Beware when you take your dogs here they’re sweet at first, but their only goal is your money and to those of you who don’t share this experience I’m glad for you. I really wish that I did not have to share this experience with anyone. Needless to say, my remaining dog will be seeing a different vet. Dr Corso only cares about the money : here are a few correspondence between Me in the office manager, when my dogs face swollen and then exploded. They didn’t care about giving him any antibiotics they said that they would do no good. I had to call back and ask if we could give him pain medication, and that was all now keep in mind my dog is almost 14 years old, and she wanted to perform all surgery on him, knowing that his lifespan wasn’t much longer than what it was when I informed them that I spoke to another vet who did not think that it was a good idea to put a dog is that age under that type of stress? They went radio silent and before that office manager was telling me about how I could get a discount how my dog would be in great hands, she would even on occasion check on the dog, but once I let her know that I had spoken with another vet, it was radio silence here are some of those correspondence Hello, this is Alana from VCA Pet Medical Center. I just emailed you the estimate for dental with extractions. Dr. Corso wanted to give the estimate including 2 extractions, but wanted you to know that if there are any additional recommendations, she would let you know while ————is under anesthesia. I did ask if ***** would be a good candidate for Care Club Senior Paws with dental, and she said yes. This would allow you to pay over the course of 12 months for the dental, but would not cover the cost of the the extractions. The Care Club plan would also cover unlimited exams, all core vaccines including the influenza and leptospirosis vaccines. —————- would also get sedated chest and abdominal x-rays, a senior blood panel, urinalysis, fecal test, and blood pressure check. I can email you a digital brochure that provides more details. Total per month for everything I mentioned above is $132.91. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. Our Bulldog puppy is 9 months old and has a prolapsed urethra he kept pestering our female so we had them look at his urethra. They said he needed to have it surgically repaired and suggested doing it when he got fixed. In the mean time they gave us a “sedative” called acepromazine to keep him calm. Dose was 2 and 1/2 tablets every 8 hours for sedation. We only gave him 2 and 15 hours later he can still barely walk. They never even explained the medication to my wife like they normally do. He is a Bulldog puppy and already has breathing issues to you give him not a sedative but a tranquilizer?!?!?!???!

Took my daughter Mia in for eye irritation and everyone was very kind. I called first thing in the morning for a same day appointment and a couple spots were available, on a Saturday. My appointment time was honored and they listened to all my concerns. What I truly felt comfortable with was they didn’t try to shove down your throat unnecessary tests and exams. Throughly explained the treatment plan and different options. The pricing was reasonable. Will be coming here again when needed. Thank you!

They're a complete ripoff!!! They quote you one price on the phone then they keep adding stuff when you get there!!! They should have been transparent from the beginning. Then they stated that they needed to see the dog for a check up and it was supposed to be already included. With the six hundred dollar charge!! My sister took the dog there for me , they go behind my husband's back and ask my sister if no they want an additional service When the dog didn't really Need it!!! They'll take advantage of you if your gullible enough!!! They're worse than a mechanic shop that's dishonest don't go here ever
