How to Save Money at West Lane Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When I showed up for my appointment I came to a room filled with people That were getting there animals vaccinated. Then I proceeded to wait another half an hour . During this time the only thing they seem to be carrying about was swiping credit cards like it was a giant infomercial Or seminar that they were selling . All they cared about was swiping those credit cards. At this point I was calling other vets trying to find another place to go. Finally the doctor saw me outside with my animal. He figured out the problem. His money hungry receptionist. Try to administer a shot to my animal and had the wrong needle. She was very inexperienced and finally got the right needle to administer the shot. She was not willing to go over the cost of everything with me nor was she voluntarily disclosing the cost of each item. At this point I just wanted to get the h*** out of there with the animal. But here's the kicker she knew. I had a coupon but charge me the regular price for the office visit Five minutes after the transaction I asked her did you charge me the coupon price for the office visit or the regular price? Well of course the greedy little b**** charge me the full price for the visit. When I asked her to adjust it stating that I did have the coupon she refused to. What kind of place refuses to honor their coupon or adjust the invoice while you are there? Stating that she had already rang up the invoice therefore there was nothing she could do. Are you kidding me? This moronic idiot who couldn't even Administer a shot to my animal in the correct manner was refusing to honor the coupon. Stay away from this place they lack ethics. Do yourself a favor . Find a veterinarian who is not going to scam you.

My favorite vet. He is amazing. Staff can be rude at times. Not all of them but Some can use customer service skills.

Such a great vet, their clinic smelled clean and they had candles lit.. You can tell they actually put an effort to make it smell good.. The doctor was very kind, and ethical. I am so glad I went with this clinic. No second opinion needed, three days later on the recommended medicine and my beloved pup is doing so much better.

I came to West Lane Pet Hospital because my normal vet was not available and I did not want to wait to have my dog checked out. The doctor was very quick to say things could be wrong without really checking out my dog which is fine as I assume he was going off my description of things. His assistant however was very rude and pushy. I suspected my dog had a UTI and they recommended a Urinalysis and bloodwork. I asked if we could start with just the urinalysis to rule out a UTI (and avoid paying an additional almost $300 for bloodwork if that was all it was) and she became very pushy. She then went to ask the doctor and I could hear them speaking and lugging about my questions for antibiotics and not doing the blood tests. Maybe she was having a bad day but I opted to go elsewhere and my dog in fact only had a UTI and is going great!
