How to Save Money at Rancho Sequoia Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My 2 year old tortoise had an upper respiratory infection and after 3 weeks of intramuscular antibiotics twice a week, she has fully recovered. The front desk staff is superb. They have convenient hours and we’re able to squeeze me in the same day. Prices are reasonable.

Dr. Kang is the best and the staff her is wonderful. Two weeks ago I took my two Nebelung cats in for their annual exam. Most doctors comment on my large kitty's weight (19 pounds), but Dr. Kang recognized that Sasha is a large breed with large bone structure and is a very healthy boy. My boy Mishka has urinary issues and Dr. Kang was so gentle with him. Today I brought the dogs in and he caught Coco's (Chihuahua) heart murmur and enlarged heart after an xray. She has heart failure, but he said we caught it soon enough for treatment and she will have a better quality of life now. Indy my Shih Tzu needs dental work which is common for the breed or dogs with an under bight. I highly recommend Dr. Kang and his staff for all your veterinary needs.

Dr Kang has cared for my 2 dogs since he was recommended to me by an existing client. He diagnosed and cured pancreatitis in my little dog. He’s all better now!!! He performed surgery on my Golden with fatty and benign tumors and lumps. He’s doing great now too. I’m grateful I have Dr Kang as my vet to care for my 2 dogs that I love so much! Thanks Dr K🐾💙❤️🐾

They could give a -100 star review, I would. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING SERIOUS! My Pomeranian had a surgery done by the main doctor and she died less than 12 hours later because he had no idea what he was doing and put her back together wrong. BTW, she was getting spayed and had a hernia removed. He did not take any responsibility and still took our $3000. It caused a lot of trauma for my family.

Woke up midday to find one of my bunnies seemed to have labored breathing and wasn’t acting right, I freaked out, didn’t brush my hair or wash my face, just drove here, (Didn’t want to waste time driving to Conejo Valley) I called as we arrived and walked in- by then, I realized I may have overreacted somewhat, receptionist welcomed us nonetheless and gave me the necesssary paperwork, afterward, i was seated in a room quickly- vet tech asked about Honey’s issues and I saw Dr Kang almost immediately- after a quick but thorough exam- he explained that Honey had a slight upper respiratory infection and pointed out the subtle signs he had looked for as well as what I interpreted as labored breathing, and suggested a round of antibiotics- I felt welcomed, and well informed/educated, charged a reasonable fee and left with the necessary medication and I am happy to report that Honey is back to normal 24 hours later. I appreciate the professionalism and kindness I was shown, thank you for fitting us in in spite of what I can only assume was a normal, full, schedule! Will be scheduling appointments for my other fur-babies annual check ups! Happy to find Dr Kang! And a thrilled to have a great LOCAL vet!
