How to Save Money at Saratoga Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They all are so kind, informative, and helpful. We had to put to sleep our beloved cat, Moosh. They went out of their way to inform us of all the possible choices we could choose regarding Moosh’s illness so we could make the right decision.

So far my only contact has been a single phone call to Saratoga Vet Clinic. It was a great experience. All my questions were answered politely & with confidence I believe by Jennifer (not 100%, I sometimes forget names). I was able to obtain a new patient/welcome to the practice appt. within 2 weeks (could have been earlier but I was unavailable). I’m switching from another practice with less than stellar service so I was so happy to be “heard” when I spoke about my pups health condition. I am looking forward to more quality service for many years to come since she is only 2y/o. Update: Sept. 2023 We have now returned for my pup’s teeth cleaning which went very well. Dr. Carpio & his team took extra good care of my girl. Dr. Carpio even came out at pick up time & showed me the best way step by step to acclimate her to daily brushing. Esp since she is so anxious. Everyone in the office is extremely caring & efficient. Also we returned for a health certificate to travel abroad last week. That appt. also went very smoothly. Ana & Jenny & Dr. Carpio were awesome. They all have a quite a personal touch & clearly care deeply about all the furrbabies that come into the clinic as well as those with issues over the phone as well. I cannot express how much I appreciate Saratoga Vet Clinic for everything they have done for my pup so far in the short time we have been going there. I highly recommend Dr. Carpio & staff.

This vet hospital is completely unprofessional. If I can give it a negative star, I would. I typically take my dog to Reed for annual checkups and routine services, because they're only 5 minutes away from where I live. But due to cost, I typically go to Saratoga for my dog's teeth cleaning and other non-routine services. Saratoga is typically a few hundred dollars less compared to Reed. This time, my dog had a mass that I wanted to remove. The doctor measured the mass and was kind of giving me a guilt trip due to the size of the mass (it was about 2 inches wide) and because my almost 15 year old dog has a heart murmur and I haven't done anything about it. Technician gave me a long list of things that they have to do in order for them to perform the mass removal. She was kind enough to tell me about her prior experiences. She's seen masses grow as big as a grapefruit and my dog's mass was about the size of a lime and in an area that he can't reach, I don't have to worry about it rupturing and it's up to me to do the mass removal procedure now. Test results all came back normal, so the doctor sent me an email to let me know that they can do the procedure. While my dog was under anesthesia, they also recommended another teeth cleaning. Everything was done accordingly, price was much much higher than a year ago, but it's understandable due to rising costs for everything. Today, I had to take my dog to Reed to get his paw checked out and the vet recommended x-rays for his heart murmur. I told the technician over the phone that I believe he had chest x-rays done at Saratoga. Reed said they will call Saratoga to get his medical records. Whoever at Saratoga that answered the phone told the Reed technician that they never took any x-rays of the chest. Now, because Saratoga's mistake, my dog is getting unnecessary x-rays of his chest and I have to pay for the same service twice. Saratoga apologized over the phone and said there's nothing else they can do. She said I was provided a copy of the radiology report, read the email that was sent to me and said she'll send the report. The radiology results were not available on their online portal and I was never provided a copy of the radiology report until today. The original email that the vet sent me on 6/27/23 was to tell me that the lab results are unremarkable and that they can go ahead and do the mass removal. They didn't even tell me about his heart worm test results until I asked. Saratoga is in the wrong and an insincere apology doesn't make it right. This isn't the right way to conduct any business. It is unprofessional and you have lost a returning customer.

The place is always clean, everyone is professional, helpful, friendly, patient. Last October, my 12 years old dog had some bumps removed successfully. This May, my other 13.5 years old dog had seizures, doctor also found inner ear infection during examination. I had a great experience with the visits.

Dr. Carpio is an amazing doctor! He helped us understand our pup and how to treat some of her conditions as she is up there in age. Very welcoming staff!
