How to Save Money at Eye Care for Animals - Santa Rosa

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I highly recommend this clinic. We have brought three of our dogs here over the years. Dr. Burwell and her staff have always been kind, caring, and knowledgeable. The doctor takes the time to explain what she's doing and to answer questions. They have always quickly responded to follow-up questions via phone, text, or email. I completely trust them with the care of my dear dogs.

We were referred by our regular vet for a growth on our dogs eyelid. They gave her a very thorough exam, and gave us a routine and drops to care for her eye. Good news the drops are working and our beloved pup is doing great, thanks to the amazing team here at Eye Care for Animals. The Dr was so good at explaining to us what was probably going on and everyone in the office was so kind, and it's pretty obvious, they all LOVE dogs and their jobs. The whole experience has been wonderful, and if you need this service for your pet, you'll be in good hands.

I will always take time to give my opinion to make others aware of my experience. It is important to pass on information to have others make an informed decision. Our newly acquired family Vet (our retired) recommended Dr. Burwell since our Dotti's eye was not getting better. From the moment I spoke on the phone to Staff they have been amazing. Every single Staff member in there knowledgeable, personable and very thorough. Dr. Burwell was fantastic and I felt my dog was in the best capable hands. I want to also give a shout out to Renee who explained everything in detail at a pace that was not rushed. Renee reiterates not to hesitate should there be any further questions. Renee also gave me exact instructions and a back up plan with numbers in case there was any problems since we are going into the weekend. My Dotti did have to have surgery to remove her eye. Dr. Burwell also sends the eye off to a see if they could find the cause (which I thought was fascinating). Our first experience 8 years ago with another Eye specialist (Sylvia Neumann) was a very bad experience. She was recommended by our Vet who is retired. I would never ever recommend S Neumann. I did a Yelp review from 2017 (regarding our other family dog who has since passed) I have run into people with a bad experience due to S Neumann. To say I was bit apprehensive is an understatement when scheduling an Eye appt. Our Family Vet now Dr. Ross highly recommended Dr. Burwell and rightly so. I know my Dotti has received the best care possible. I felt very confident after our Exam with Dr. Burwell. If you need to have your animal seen by an Eye Specialist this is your place to go. Trust is very important for us and I have complete Trust in Dr. Burwell and her entire Staff. Our Dotti is recovering nicely and have no doubt a positive full recovery. Dotti was wagging her tail the whole time there. You have to remember if your Vet recommended your animal to a Specialist this means it is not in the scope of what your Vet can do. Dr. Burwell is the best and what a sigh of relief. Please do not hesitate if you are looking for an Eye specialist. Your Dog/Cat will be better for it and you will have made the right choice.

Always a pleasure to visit. This Santa Rosa office is an oasis of calm in a busy veterinary world. Wonderful staff and state of the art care! My dog had cataract surgery and it has changed her life, and the dynamics or our dog pack and family life :)
