How to Save Money at Animal Health Center of Santa Clara
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I'm delighted to share my wonderful experience at this pet care facility. The entire staff is incredibly nice and caring, making me feel confident leaving my pups in their hands. Unlike other places, the team here, especially Alyssa, stands out with their top-notch service. Alyssa goes above and beyond, always addressing my concerns with attentiveness and never making me feel rushed. Her willingness to explain everything sets this place apart. I've been to other vets where the staff can be short and rude, but that's not the case here. I highly recommend this place, and if you're lucky, you might have Alyssa as your tech – she's truly awesome! Kudos to the entire staff and docs for creating such a positive environment for both pets and their owners.

I've been taking my pets here for a few years now. The veterinarian and rest of staff have been wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful. You can nvr pass up good medical care when you find it. Regardless of where I move, I will continue to bring my pets here knowing they are getting the best care overall.

One star is too much for this place, ideally -5!!! The people on reception are rude and frankly shouldn't be working with the public! My boyfriend went to take my kitten and our appointment was at 2:30pm. He wasn't seen until 4:30pm with no apology or anything like that. He already wrote a review about the terrible service the other time we went there, but today was too much! It's unbelievable how this clinic still has customers. I only went back because I was stubborn, as he had already told me he would never go there again! The doctor didn't even look at him when he spoke, they are rude and unfriendly people! I don't recommend it and I'll never go there again. If you have any sense, don't go there!

This place deserves negative star: 1. Lack of knowledge. My pet got an obvious fungal infection even myself can tell from the skin appearance. The doctor says it's allergy. After I insist on checking if it's fungal infection, they still said cannot be, but finally proved it actually is. 2. Charge extra. Even through it's confirmed fungal infection, they still attempted to prescribe both allergy and fungal infection medicine to charge more. 3. What's more, they scared me that it could be a fatal problem so my dog has to do an expensive test. The test is totally not needed because simply applying infection medicine daily will tell if it's fatal in less than 1 week, but their test takes at least 1 month. Because I was scared and pushed by them, I accepted it, but I didn't get the lab test result yet even until today(6 month since the test date).

Peterson had his annual exam and vaccines here. Very good experience during the visit. However, it was difficult for me to get this appointment. No one answered the phone call for a few days. (I dialed the phone number listed on Google Map and on their front door.)
