How to Save Money at Affordable Animal Hospital: Santa Ana

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff are all extremely nice and helpful. (I was helped by the technician Anai)They welcome walk ins which is amazing and easy. We were first time guests and got my dog his vaccinations. We were there for about 30-35 minutes so the service is quick! We will definitely be coming back!!

My dog recently got sick when we got back from traveling. She’s a rescuer with really bad separation anxiety and didn’t want to leave my side. Kailey was one of the sweetest people and made my sick girl feel so calm and relaxed during her check up. Definitely a great experience for myself and my pup.

Our 18 yr old dog was ready to pass away. I called my reg vet but it was over $500 for a 13lb dog. I called around and was referred by another clinic to Dr Kim. Best thing that could have happened. The staff were so nice and accommodating. It was a very special moment to be with my buddy while he passed away. With their assistance I was able to morn and feel their love for us. Wonderful place. Great vet.

I usually don’t leave reviews however my experience here was fantastic. Everyone I have encountered with is so friendly. The technician Anaí is amazing. She made my hospital visit so much easier. I can tell she really cares for animals. It was a pleasure to leave my babies in her care!

Don't go here. My primary vet didn't have a doctor and I had no choice but to go elsewhere. My dog's primary suggested this place and I trusted their suggestion. On Friday my dog was sick and coughing. I'm also worried about his vision and weight too. I'm taking him elsewhere because they told me they'd have the blood work ready in the same day and they didn't. They gave me my dog still sick. Yes they did diagnostics but there's no vet in today (Monday) and there's no guarantee he'll be in tomorrow either. Their x-ray machine wasn't working on Friday and that delayed things. I get that they can't give medication until the diagnostics are read but the thing is there's no doctor present. Literally spent $814 on diagnostics only for the doc to not be present. My dog is having really bad symptoms and I don't understand how they don't at least have a back up vet present. I'm not waiting til this doc shows up and it's ridiculous they charge $45 for a 5min talk with the vet on Friday. He just said it's likely not kennel cough but that tests needed to be done. That antibiotics could be given but it might not help if it's a heart issue. I just wish I'd gotten results in the same day so I could get meds + potentially quarantine my other pets if need be. I'm just really disappointed. $814 later I'm taking my dog to another vet to get the diagnostics read and medication. UPDATE: So I called this vet and requested they send the results to GG Cat and Dog Hospital. The vet at GG told me they sent everything but the upper respiratory and blood work. They didn't even do the blood labs and still charged me even though they lied saying the test was done except there were no vets to give me results. They returned my $200 for the blood labs they never did and literally a WHOLE week later, this morning I barely get a call from the vet that was on vacation that gave me my dog's respiratory results that were negative. 🙄 Yes that would've been great to know a week ago. GG Cat and Dog is more reliable, they gave my dog meds in the same day.
