How to Save Money at Acacia Pet Hospital of San Jose
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been a loyal client of Acacia Pet Clinic for nearly 15 years. However, after the change in ownership and significant staff turnover, the quality of service has noticeably declined. Over the past two years, I've encountered numerous issues including unfulfilled promises to email prescriptions, scheduling errors, and incorrect appointment confirmations. Additionally, they no longer stock the prescribed food for my cat, and multiple attempts to connect with Chewy for orders have failed. When I requested immunization records, they were sent without the necessary dates, rendering them useless. While the veterinarians have always provided excellent care, I miss the exceptional service that Billy and Dr. Curly once offered. Today, I had an especially frustrating experience with a staff member named Vic, whose argumentative attitude made an already disappointing situation worse. Sadly, after years of loyalty, I will be taking my pets to a new clinic.

I've been to Acacia vets 4 times, always assumed my disappointment might be "me" and dont really enjoy being negative. With years passing and staff/ownership changes, I hope for a better experience. Each time, this place seems to work at being dangerously deceptive. Medical care for my service animal, is medical care for me, so it shouldn't be a hustle or shakedown. However, each time Acacia is caught being less than forthright. They even send in a "closer" who reports to a "manager" to see how much they can "wring" out of you. Very frustrating. If you want to feel like you're buying a used car when seeking medical attention for your pet, this is the place for you.

I had the pleasure of visiting Acacia with my dog Louie and I must say that the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff, who showed genuine care and compassion for our furry friends. The veterinarian we saw was not only highly knowledgeable and skilled but also displayed a deep love for animals. They took the time to thoroughly examine my pet, explain the diagnosis in detail, and discuss the treatment options available. I felt reassured and confident in their expertise every step of the way. The clinic itself was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which further added to the overall positive experience. The staff went above and beyond to make sure both my pet and I were comfortable and well taken care of throughout our visit. I left Acacia pet clinic feeling grateful for the exceptional care and attention my pet received. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a veterinarian who truly cares about the well-being of animals. Thank you to the entire team for your dedication and commitment to providing top-notch care to my loved one. Also this under new management now ! From What iv read from the comments!

This doctor would not sell me prescription dog food for my pet. I was told the doctor wanted to have a relationship with my animal and be seen before selling the product to me. My dog already has a prescription from another vet in San Jose that they would not call to confirm. I was told that they are not a pharmacy. I guess this is the reason why you have an old broke down looking practice since you don’t have a business degree . Can’t recognize money once it walks through the door. Also, forgot about your doctors oath .
