How to Save Money at Petco Vaccination Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The worst. I would give 0 stars if possible. The Veterinarian and her staff were unprofessional, untrained, and terrified my pups. They were rude and seemed like they didnt know what they were doing with my dog. I was not allowed to hold my own pups during the vaccination, even when my pup was scared of the vetco assistants. They were impatient and quickly muzzled my friendly pup because he was nervous. When things weren't going their way, 3 vetco staff members cornered my muzzled pup and tried to forcefully pin him to the ground. They're only response was to leave and go somewhere else if I didnt like their methods. I took my pups and left.

The clinic area was very disorganized, cluttered and dirty. Very disappointed.

Love the store, but 3 times recently, the vets didn't show up as posted, and last time the vet showed up, but "his crew" didn't, so he left..trying to get heart guard for my pup, shouldn't be so difficult, & not sure that I want to take him anymore to a vet that's so irresponsible. Sad.

Pretty bad. I went to Vetco in Alameda for my puppy’s second round of boosters and the vet there was quick and tidy, very professional and informative. I was in and out in 5-10 minutes. I was pretty impressed and had a good impression on Vetco. I decided to go to one in San Francisco for my pup’s last round of shots, however, and it was a total mess. First, some customer in the front was holding up the line out at the front for 20 minutes and the employees didn’t know how to handle him. We went inside and waited another ~15 minutes for that customer to finish his appointment with the vet. Of course this isn’t their fault, it’s the customer, so I sympathized and decided it wasn’t going to ruin the day. I tried to feel bad for the vet, but I couldn’t really when my poor little pup was spurting blood across the floor. The dude clearly didn’t know what he was doing. We asked for the puppy package which included 50g of dewormer, but more than half of it fell out of my pup’s mouth due to how sloppy the vet is. Then the vet microchipped my pup, and apparently he must have hit a vein because my puppy was quite literally spurting blood across the floor and it ran down the sides of his shoulders. The nurses were wiping and spraying down the floor frantically and the vet himself was spraying and wiping at my pup trying to stop the bleeding and clean him up. This went on for 10 minutes. Overall the visit was about an hour. I can’t help but feel remorse of bringing my puppy here and having to experience all that. Was a waste of time and money. Worst $98 I’ve ever spent and I can’t say that Vetco deserved my money. If I’d have known Vetcos weren’t consistent, I would have traveled two hours to make sure I got that same vet from Alameda even after she moved locations. Really wanted to like this place since they’re so close to home. Shame.

They were great. Helpful and friendly, it doesn’t get much better than that.
