How to Save Money at VCA Animal Specialty Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
VCA has provided my mom’s dog Lucy with really great care with little wait time. Lucy had her first seizure and I was so scared and worried. The front desk staff were excellent with providing me support and direction on what to do in case it happens again before an appointment was set. I was able to get in the day after and the provider was really awesome with explaining everything and helping Lucy out. The facility is really clean and you can tell that the people who work here really care about animals. It’s a big pricey but it is a speciality clinic so just keep that in mind. But I rather pay a little more for excellent care than paying less for a place that doesn’t care about your furbaby. Thank you VCA!

Although I came to VCA under less than ideal circumstances, my partner and I cannot thank Dr. Garnett and Dr. Hernandez enough for their work in treating Siobhan. Unfortunately Siobhan had large-cell lymphoma, and it took her life less than 3 months after diagnosis. Despite the terrible prognosis, Dr. Garnett presented all treatment options in a manner that we could understand so we could make the best decision for our kitty. She prioritized my cat's quality of life until the very end. Even though chemo did not work for Siobhan, the other treatment medications did improve her quality of life, and I do not regret giving it a shot. Having hope IS important, and I am grateful those working with Siobhan gave her the best chance at survival. My cat was very difficult (biting, scratching) at the vet, but the technicians still embraced her despite only ever seeing her spicy side. Kori from oncology specifically was attentive and did an amazing job. I fully trusted her with my baby. All employees I interacted with were professional, kind, and empathetic. In the diagnosis stage, the doctors communicated with one another to help properly diagnose her atypical case. This level of cooperation, to me, was indicative that I had made the right choice in bringing her here. I always received a prompt call-back with questions; I usually worry about annoying the vet and technicians, but they treated my concerns with care. I had a previous bad experience a few years ago with a vet who did not permit me to be with my dog as she lay dying, so I went into this situation very sour and fearful. Those who cared for my little "keeb" have my deepest gratitude for restoring my faith in veterinary professionals. These photos were possible because of the efforts of Siobhan's doctors to give her the best last couple of months possible.

It’s important to share about the compassion their ER team shared when I brought my cat in. These folks really did the best they could and managed the emotional nuances and logical understanding of our pet’s fate with love. Onyx was experiencing a degenerative illness prior to her arrival to the ER, when things abruptly became a critical situation on Monday. It was clear she was not leaving the hospital after talking with the vet. Their team was very supportive and understanding of our painful reality. Letting her go was a peaceful and hard process, but I genuinely want to thank the VCA ER for supporting us through this difficult transition. Thank you for taking the time to care for my beloved Onyx.

I highly recommend this office. My dog was stung by a bee late at night and her entire face started to swell up. She was taken to this office and treated immediately. They watched her carefully, gave her medicine, and removed the stinger. We had excellent communication and discharge instructions. I was afraid of a very large bill because we didn’t have insurance but it was very fair pricing. Highly recommend.

This review is long overdue but it was hard to write for a long time. Dr. Garnett is the most wonderful vet I’ve had the pleasure of working with and her team is also so kind and compassionate. Scooby loved Nadine, Cory, and Dr. Garnett. My dog, Scooby, had advanced lymphoma and Dr. Garnett and her team gave me six extra months of precious time including a couple of road trip adventures with my best friend. I always felt that he was so cared for and she was the only vet he was ever excited to see. If your pup is fighting the big fight, they couldn’t be in better hands than with Dr. Garnett and her team. I’m so appreciative for them. Thank you!
