How to Save Money at Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We are in a long coast to coast road trip and my pup started to complain about his ears. Because he suffers from frequent ear infection I decided it was best to have the ears checked. The entire staff was wonderful. The front desk was super caring and informative, made us feel safe and welcomed. The Tech and Doctor were super professional, explained everything that needed to be done, and got us back on the road in record time. Thank you Tell Tail Urgent Care for being so good at what you do, and for taking such awesome care of my Kai. Be blessed and wag on 🐶😎🐾…

Do not take your beloved pet to Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care! Dr. Melissa Cody and Char the vet assistant were incredibly rude and incompetent. Dr. Melissa Cody only cared about going home and charging us for unnecessary diagnostic testing. If you are looking for high quality services, professionalism and people who care about the animals look elsewhere. I took my dog here last week as a walk in since his regular vet was all booked for the day. I searched for the closest urgent care as this was a pressing issue and found this place. From the start the employees were uninterested and disengaged. I was told they may not be able to see my pet and when they came back and said they could they seemed reluctant and annoyed to have another patient. As a first time dog owner and worried for his health, I just wanted my pup to receive help ASAP and was relieved when they took him in. I should have walked away at this point because this negative experience just continued to get worse. When we went into the medical room there was dog urine everywhere and it smelled horrible which is unacceptable for a medical facility. I kindly let the Char know without being upset about the urine all over the floor and she appeared upset to clean it up. Once we explained all the symptoms and why we are here they took him to the back for a physical exam and to test for a disease he has a vaccine for, which we explained. Char made us feel guilty and portrayed us as uncaring pet parents and pretty much pressured us into testing we knew was unnecessary. I believe that they used our anxiety and worries to make us feel bad and charge us for all these unnecessary diagnostics which did not even look at the main reason we were there for which was the blood we found on him! Once the unnecessary test was completed, Dr. Melissa Cody came back and talked to us for no more than 5 minutes and gave us no time to ask any follow-up questions or provide any recommendations or reasons as to what might be causing the blood. Preventative care, at-home strategies and a detailed summary of her findings were not discussed as they would in any debriefing with the vet. It was very clear she was ready to leave and uninterested in helping our dog (we were her last patient). I have never seen such an uncaring and unprofessional vet. Dr. Melissa Cody then sent back Char to review an estimate with us and stated that our dog is too "crazy" he would need sedation to get any sort of sample from him. This is completely false, I was able to be seen by his regular vet a few days later and they were able to get a sample just fine without trying to charge us hundreds of dollars to sedate him for no reason! When the nurse came back she quoted us over $1,500 in additional testing that may or may not even tell us what is wrong (words from the vet) in addition to the $250 we already paid for a physical exam and testing for diseases my dog is vaccinated for. On top of this, Char kept reminding us that we need to hurry up with our decision since they close in an hour. At this point, we just left. I could not believe how rude and uncaring Dr. Melissa Cody and Char could be. They literally just wanted to upcharge us and sadly did not care about the well being of our dog. We left in tears without any new information or help for our pup. I do not recommend Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care or Dr. Melissa Cody. I have only had positive and caring vet experiences until coming to this facility.

Great service here. Had to bring my dog, Rex, in this morning because he was acting off. I came in about a half hour after they opened, was greeted warmly when I came in. Marty, the receptionist, helped me get him all checked in and was very nice and understanding. Marty kept me informed on the estimated wait time and when the technician, Angel, came out to get a quick triage, he was also very patient and kind to Rex (Rex does not like the vets and was very nervous plus whatever was bothering him). He let me know that they’ll come get Rex when the Dr’s ready and she’ll do an exam on him and then bring me into a room where the Dr will then talk to me and go over what she found. The wait wasn’t very long, maybe 10-15 minutes, and I was able to wait in the car with Rex since he did not like being in the office. Angel came out and got Rex from me and carried him into the back so he didn’t have to walk due to his uncomfortableness. Not very long after, maybe 10 mins, he showed me into an exam room and brought Rex back. Dr. Cody came in soon after and explained that Rex had a foxtail in his ear and they removed it, no problems and they examined both his ears after to make sure there wasn’t anything else. Great place and wonderful and caring staff!

My normal vet couldn’t see my dog for a week so recommend Tell Tail. The employees here are so kind and patient. Blake and I have visited multiple time over the last couple days and each time they were so caring. They understand cost can be prohibitive, so made sure I was ok with everything and helped me prioritize what diagnostic tools would be most helpful. They were available to answer follow up questions, and checked in on us next day to see how Blake is doing. The whole time I was in the waiting room they always spoke highly of the animals and pet parents they saw. Highly recommend when you need to see a vet during a critical time. Only negative, which is related to it being an urgent care is wait times can be long, but they try their best to see you as soon as they can while prioritizing existing procedures and triaging those waiting.

We took our cat in for a UTI today after being turned away from animal hospital due to no doctor in yet. They told us about this urgent care, so we call and they said they could fit us in right away. We got there and the front desk staff was so amazing. The nurse who came out to talk to us was so amazing as well. I began to cry out of stress and she was so calming and comforting. We then met with the doctor who also was incredible! She explained everything they would do and what it all meant. We picked up our cat and got a thorough explanation of what’s going on and what we need to do. I called the clinic again with some extra questions and Wally (or Willy I’m so sorry I forgot it was a long day) was the kindest person I’ve ever talked to. He made sure I understood the medications and how to use them. He was so kind and comforting, truly a blessing to the world. Of course it was expensive but that’s what you get with emergency care. Thank you for taking care of our cat, and us.
