How to Save Money at Santaluz Animal Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was our first time here. We were having a hard time finding a last minute appointment for our puppy and I’m so glad I found them! The Dr. and the staff were amazing, especially Gabriella, she was very kind and helpful. They were transparent and caring, we really appreciate their service and help today! I guess Moana has a new vet now :)

Best Veterinarians EVER! Their Fear free policy has helped me take my reactive dog to the vet again! Every time we go in it has always been an amazing and caring experience for all my four-legged friends. I would absolutely recommend them to any pet owner and will continue to bring my pets confidently knowing they will get treated with all the love and consideration they deserve. Prices are comparable to other vets we've visited, they give you a break down of costs and options for treatment. They don't push anything and are completely understanding towards pet history, my female hadn't been to a veterinarian in years because of her reactivity to other animals. I had no problems with her appointment and she got the most loving care.

Being new to the area and having an older, anxious dog posed the usual concern regarding how to find a Vet who could make him feel comfortable enough to be examined properly, while also accommodating my shy, gentle 2-year old girl. We immediately felt at home the moment we entered the office, with the calm attitude of the staff; specially treated, calming bandanas; and the most non-medical, medical office I have seen, complete with a comfortable couch large enough for everyone! Dr. Johnson and her staff were wonderful! My older dog was able to receive the most complete exam and treatment he has been afforded in a while, while my little girl comfortably was examined as well. Thank you for a great experience!

Dr. Kat and Dr. Johnson and the entire team at Santaluz Animal Care (Clara and all the techs! Jessi, Ariel, Jamie, Lisa) are the best veterinary office I have ever experienced! Lightyears beyond any other medical establishment I've been to. They have set up the entire clinic with windows in the examination rooms and in a pet friendly manner and will get on the floor with my dog to treat her, anything to make her comfortable. We have been going to them for almost a year and every member are the kindest, most caring, above and beyond team who love every animal as if it was their own. They are also constantly doing the most amazing surgeries and healing journeys for rescue dogs through the rescue we got our dog through, been amazing to see some of the other patients walking through their doors. They are the reason caring for our sweet rescue dog Raya has been possible because when anything comes up, Dr. Kat always has made sure she got the care she needed no matter how busy the office was as well as made sure she was comfortable during all procedures as Dr. Kat and Clara have provided her with fear-free care in routine type appointments and more major medical procedures. I love love love this office and am SO grateful to have them care for our baby girl and for all their guidance in our rescue journey.

Due to horrific experiences I've had with taking my boy to the vet, it was hard to find a clinic I could trust. I'm really, really blessed to have found Santaluz Animal Care!! Dr. Kay, Carol, Lisa, and the rest of the staff were AMAZING and completely understanding of my fears and concerns for my boy, who also really enjoyed his visit! They were very thorough and explained everything in detail. The environment is so comforting!! Even though they're 2 hours away, they are very worth the drive.
