How to Save Money at Peaceful Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Chapman was an incredible ray of light and kindness in an extremely heart-wrenching time. Our 13+ yr old pup, Tali, no longer had a good quality of life and was unable to get up without assistance. She still ate and drank water, but we would have to carry her up and down stairs to use the bathroom as even a ramp would not work for her lack of stability. She was such a special family dog and loved us all with every last bit of her being. Having Dr. Chapman meet us all with compassion and the way that she loved on Tali was invaluable. She ushered her from her painful body to a place of peace, and we’ll be forever grateful. We were able to surround Tali and it seemed as if she were content and ready to move on. We would highly recommend her when the difficult decision must be made.

Our Bengal / Pixbob mix male cat, Torochan, was 14 years old when he passed away. He had aggressive pancreas and liver cancers, and we were told that his remaining life was very short and he should have quality time home with us as much as possible until his last moment. He eventually became so weak that we decided to send him to the cat heaven, but we wanted him to spend even the very last moment of his life with us and his long time partner cat home. We requested Dr Chapman of Peaceful Veterinary Care to come to our home and help us. It was done on the patio table and Torochan looked very relaxed and peaceful during and after the procedure. After we spent time to process what just happened to us and to our precious little life, we sent the following message to Dr. Chapman. "Torochan was with us for 14 years, and he left many joyful and funny memories. The day you visited us, we gave him a peaceful place to sleep eternally in our backyard, and we planted a rose above him. We appreciated your kind words and time spent with Torochan and us during his last moment."

First I want to say that so many places had bad reviews so I was starting to doubt I would find a company to trust my baby with. Imax passed away in the middle of the night. I read stories about dogs being held for ransom and just bad bad stuff for people to experience after losing their babies. Doctor Chapman was the kindest person to have dealt with during this hard time. She was patient, kind and understanding. And she helped me through the process. Thank you for being a great place to turn to in such a hard time.

Dr. Chapman was an amazing and compassionate guide for us and our dog Sprout during this very difficult time. She took all the time that we, and importantly he, needed to be comfortable. It was as painless and peaceful as this experience could have been. We are so deeply appreciative to Dr. Chapman and give her our highest recommendation.

I can not say enough good things about Peaceful Waters. Dr. Chapman is the best. She is very compassionate and kind and treats families and pets as if they were her own. We lost our beloved Pepe-Doodles on June 3, 2024 to cancer. He was a rescue dog and we believe he was 17 years old. He was in our family for 15 years. The entire staff at Peaceful Waters helped us through a difficult time and was a comfort to our family. The condolence card and souviner from Dr. Chapman meant so much to us. This is not an ordinary place, it is a very special place to receive beautiful care for your pet who is a member of your family. We will always bring our special furry friends to Peaceful Waters.
