How to Save Money at Veterinary Vision Animal Eye Specialists

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The so-so news is your pet has an eye problem? Well, the silver lining is you can have Vet Vision on your side. Lucky you! I really don't know where we would be without them, having adopted a dog with eye trouble in 2020. They always make everything as easy as possible and have put great systems in to place like a check-in QR code by the door and a patient portal on their website for asking questions or getting appointments. They are all great but the best of the best is Dr. Mughannam. He says my dog is a delight, and well of course I agree, but so is this doctor! I have visited both offices but live near the San Carlos one so that's where I've been by far the most. It's easy to park there and I also always get to chat with another animal lover or two in the parking lot. Eye trouble is no fun, but like I said, Vet Vision is a silver lining.

I had a great experience at Veterinary Vision. The staff was polite and tended to me promptly. The doctor was informative, helpful, and thorough. The office itself was extremely clean and nicely decorated. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend them!

My dog was a patient for a number of years at Vet Vision. He's an older dog and has had ongoing eye issues. We saw Dr. O'Leary who we loved. Eye issues can pop up quickly, and she told us we could text when we were experiencing an issue and she would fit us in. This happened a few times and she was wonderful. Unfortunately, Dr. O'Leary left the practice and once she did, we never received good service again. I tried to get an appointment when my dog's eye seemed to be irritated and they told me 3 weeks. I gave him drops that he had been prescribed the previous time the eye acted up, but while I was out of town on business, it became worse - his eye was red, squinty, and he clearly had a problem. In order to try to see someone at Vet Vision, I advised my 23 year old daughter to arrive at Vet Vision first thing, Monday morning, in hopes of getting in. I called the front desk as they were opening to let them know she was coming and the the guy at the front desk was incredibly rude. He told me it was "unacceptable for her to just show up". I explained that she would wait (all day if necessary) for a vet or vet tech to take a quick look and advise us. He became extremely angry (I really don't understand why) and hung up on me. My daughter was there at the office with our dog during this scene, actually crying, and he turned her away. What kind of vet office does this to a long-standing patient? I managed to get in to Dr. Michelle Martin de Bustamente at Blue Pearl Vet that afternoon. She diagnosed my dog with a deeply ulcerated cornea - it was in fact an emergency. We tried to save the eye, but ultimately my dog lost his eye. Had Vet Vision seen my dog when I first called, I don't think my dog would have lost the eye. When you have an ongoing relationship with a doctor or vet, there is an assumption that in an emergency situation, they will see you. This is not true at Vet Vision. Not only will they not see you, they treat you rudely and with no compassion whatsoever. I established a relationship with what I thought was a reputable vet, but when my dog was in need, he did not get the care he deserved and as a result, he lost his eye. Very sad.

Worst experience ever today. Today was a six month recheck for my dog at 820am. I had the appointment booked over a month ago and today I arrived and checked in was called back by the receptionist with questions and told to go to the front door with my dog. Not to mention it’s traumatic taking my dog to the vet and had to drag him to the front door when my phone started ringing again. When I picked up I was told the office is closed today and they are taking appointments in Redwood City but forgot to tell me. You’ve wasted an hour and a half of my day and want me to take more of my time because you didn’t bother to tell me that’s very unreasonable and I will not support a business that does not take my time into consideration. While I was waiting there for about 15 minutes I saw several other clients pull up check in and drive away this appears to be their entire schedule today nobody was notified the office is closed. Bad business practices I will share this experience with anyone I can. Considering the cost and difficulty getting appointments this is beyond frustrating. Looks like I’ll be driving several hours out of my way to avoid this business in the future… -5 stars

My cat had an ongoing eye infection which caused him to have 105.3 fever. I took him to my regular vet and felt the diagnosis was wrong. I thought i was going to lose him. After my vet got his fever under control i called and explained the issues with Erik. I was so concerned because the infection was back again after 2 weeks of medication. Erik assured me he would do everything he could to find an appointment for me. He was concern and compassionate. I was so impressed with his professionalism. Its not something you get much these days. He got me and appointment and my cat was diagnosed and is still in ongoing treatment but i am convinced by the staff's efforts my sweet cat is in the best hands. Thank you for the excellent care.
