How to Save Money at Dr. Linda Fisk

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Fisk and the staff at Arden Animal Hospital have been taking care of my dogs—four Basenjis--over a more than twenty-year period, and their care has always been exceptional. They make me feel that they care about the health and comfort of my animals as much as I do, and on the three occasions that I lost an animal it was clear that their compassion and empathy were both genuine and heartfelt. The facility is exceptionally clean, the tech staff efficient, friendly, and extremely helpful, and whenever I’ve had an emergency I’ve never had to wait to be seen. They are also able to run many tests in-house, which means the test results are available far more quickly, and we can immediately proceed to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that my animal obtains the best treatment and care. It would also be important to note that although AAH has always been able to take care of most of the needs of my animals, Dr. Fisk--who has a wonderful bedside manner--has never been hesitant in recommending that I seek the advice of a specialist when it is in the best interest of my animal. If you are looking for a veterinary clinic for the lifetime care of your dog or cat, Arden Animal Hospital would be a great choice. It’s an excellent facility with staff and veterinarians who show true concern not only for their patients, but are also cognizant of the exceptional bond that forms between an owner and their animal.

You wrote a review for Arden Animal Hospital 2 days ago 9/13/2017 My two pets, Bebe (Chihuahua, 14 years old) and Chloe (my 14 year old "kitty") have received the best of care at the Arden Animal Hospital on Fulton Ave for several years now. I always look forward to our visits to this professional, courteous and friendly Veterinarian Hospital. From the time of our arrival, we are seen within a very reasonable time and the front desk staff treat us like we are the only patients being seen that day! Doctor Fisk takes the time to examine Bebe and Chloe very thoroughly and presents us with exact diagnosis and gives us a prioritized treatment plan, from which we are able to select the treatments that WE decide are most necessary. Although I should visit the clinic more often, I have budget constraints which limit the visit frequency, but they thoroughly understand and provide very adequate care despite my situation. For anyone seeking great care for their pets I, without hesitation, recommend Arden Animal Hospital. I always get the feeling that all staff love my pets almost as much as I do! Thank you Arden Animal Hospital! David B Rock

I have been taking my cats to Arden Animal Hospital since I moved in the area 18 years ago. Currently Dr Fisk is caring for two of my cats. Before this I had a beloved cat that developed kidney disease and for his last year of life, he had treatments 3 times a week so I got to know the staff and Dr Fisk fairly well. Not only did they take care of my wonderful cat well but they certainly looked after me when it was time to say good bye to Bubba. It is a great place to care for your animal and I highly recommend it.

I cannot say enough good things about arden animal hospital. The staff is always welcoming and so loving towards all animals- including my high energy pitbull. I have seen many of the vets there and they all take their time and make sure to answer all your questions. I love Dr. Fisk and Dr. Toby who have both worked closely with me and my dog. They are both clearly animal lovers- and are so great at making my dog relaxed and comfortable even during difficult exams. I have never felt pressure to do unnecessary tests- and I really feel like their suggestions for treatment are based on what is best for your pet- and not what will bring in the most money. These people are truly in it for the love of animals and I am so grateful to have found them.

I've only been there twice, but so far the staff are friendly and the doctor is competent. I appreciate that they give me an estimate before I have to commit to any particular treatments for my dog and they don't get pushy when I decline some care because of our budget.
